@pony Hi! Nowadays, people avoid using the word "cripple" to refer to someone on a wheelchair. You could probably use "person on a wheelchair" or even "disabled" as an alternative.

Do you see a link, and tell yourself "This is going to be a Wikipedia link."? How often is your guess correct?

Do you have a VPS that you feel you are not using to its potential? Some ideas to take your mind off the hosting costs:1. Git / VCS hosting2. Gemini Capsule3. Wiki Hosting (Fossil, TiddlyWiki)4. Multiple Personal / Community websites5. Mastodon instance (for the more adventurous)6. File storage (Nextcloud etc.)7. Self hosted email (delivery is a hard problem)8. IRC Client or IRC BouncerNot doing *all* of the above, but satisfied with the various things I'm hosting.

@cnx Okay, that's not encouraging. Perhaps I might setup incoming email, but use an external service for outgoing email. It is sad, but that's how things are at the moment. 🤦♂️

@cnx Cool. If you have any resources that have been known to work, you can send it to me. Would love to check them out. I do intend to attempt it at some point.

For some log analysis task, should I learn Kibana's underlying Lucene regex syntax or parse log files manually using Raku grammars?#RakuLang #regex

Setting up a VPS and self hosting random services was the most difficult thing I did in the last few years. I needed a lot of help, but now I am reaping the benefits and satisfaction.Perhaps I'll write a long form article about this sometime.

What kind of lighting do you use in the evenings for reading? After a day's work in artificial lighting and screen use, I can't bear cool white light, so we put dim lighting at home. While it is relaxing, it is too dim to read, so that discourages me, and the mere thought of turning on harsher lighting hurts my eyes.I don't want to read a Kindle in this dim lighting either. Should reading be a daytime-only activity for me, then?

@abnv I don't mind reading the Kindle in the evening. Unfortunately, the books on top of my pile are technical books in paper form.

@abnv If you're interested, get the US Edition, as the Indian one has the exercises replaced for an inexplicable reason.Got the hardcover, the quality of printing etc. is so much nicer.

@abnv yeah, ideally there should be more public libraries where books like this can be read/borrowed.
