@gmcgath speculation is a less flavourful way of putting it. In the end you are investing time on supporting lesser of two evils candidate. Instead we could be working towards promoting a better candidate than either on the topic of government surveillance.

@djsumdog @vhns best year, has baby brembos, is 2.5L, rear limited slip rear and center diffs. Later WRXs had worse brakes and open rear. Also Hawkeyes Wagon is the best looking Subaru.I had one for 130k and tracked it. Cobb Stage2 with redone suspension, it was easily keeping up with STIs. Enjoy this classic turbo car - it really wakes up with 3SS and de-cat downpipe, BCS, intake, fuel pump and stage2 custom tune. You won't have to touch internals and be making torquey 290hp with little lag!

@djsumdog @vhns mine was a sleeper track car wagon :)I miss it a little, but Miata ND2 Club has much more traction will walk away from tuned WRX in corners - ND2 won't keep up in straights but those aren't fun anyways... :)

@djsumdog @vhns You can (barely) fit a similar vintage STI steering rack and it really wakes the car up - no more hand over hand in tight turns!! One of the best upgrades for that car (the steering is TOOOO SLOOOOW).

@Murray_N @Killer_Mule this and all visual #cw charts are very dangerous, as instead of subconsciously learning to "hear" letters, one shifts to visually and consciously walking this, or another, memorized chart. If the goal is to "hear" #cw, train by ear ONLY.

@Murray_N @Killer_Mule haha, yes, I had trouble reading it visually - but happy to see interest in CW. I made the comment for people who would actually WANT to learn it. I get the use case of this chart for ad-hoc user decoding :)

@Killer_Mule @Murray_N +100 for learning to "hear" online, this is one good resource: https://lcwo.net/For learning to send, you'll need a key and keyer. There is a great device called Morserino-32 (a kit) which is both a key and keyer, but also a trainer (and can also act as a decoder). See: http://www.morserino.info/ . The production is stopping soon/already, but if you can find one, I can't recommend it enough.

@eriner tried meshtastic solar RAK node 25ft up with 8dBi omni for a couple months. The mesh is not mature enough. Neat exercise, but line-of-sight and only 100mW so even foliage will attenuate it sufficiently to be spotty. Some related posts: https://liberdon.com/@saahbs/tagged/meshtastic

@eriner +1 private mesh where you engineer your nodes and coverage is workable. Nice!

#diy #engine #dehumidifier. Even when hangared, aircraft engines will go through temperature cycles and ingest humid air which condenses on metal parts causing corrosion.A solution is a closed loop system pumping dry air through oil filler neck and collecting "exchaust" via the breather.Instead of paying hundreds $ I built my own for $50. The 6lb of dessicant will require reconditioning every few months - TBD.#pilot #aviation #flying #avgeek #pilotlife

@HSTG no it does not and neither does my hangar. Both are not airworthy nor part of the aircraft in flight :)

I returned back to Internet’s roots, to a personal web server.Back to the basics from the world of centralized, controlled and censored platforms.Instead of running Mastodon, or any of alternative ActivityPub servers, I elected to stand up (again) my own personal web site. Requirements are: control, simplicity and ability to integrate with ActivityPub and other future open protocols.#web #activitypub #federated #freedom more on:https://saahbs.net/post/20250104-first-post/

@billblake2018 About a decade ago I had business DSL with static IP and ran everything out of my house. It was convenient, but more expensive than a decent VM or VPS.Today I have a number of small VMs I utilize for my projects - I've had very good experience with #linode .If you are starting from scratch using my approach, then buying your own domain and getting cheapest web hosting (or S3) would work - the site it statically compiled. Here is S3 cost breakdown: https://medium.com/@bezdelev/cost-breakdown-for-a-static-website-on-aws-after-18-months-in-production-d97a932d2d25

@billblake2018 awesome, same here wrt "old hands" :). I have been running my own SMTP server for 20+ years and worked professionally on major SMTP services. Anyways, I no longer serve from my house - too unreliable compared to a ~linode VM and not cheaper. If you require hosting on-premises, my current favorite approach is to VPN-out the on-premises box to a node with static IP and proxy back all web traffic through the VPN. This tends to be much more robust than dyndns approaches.

@billblake2018 I suppose that is a principled approach for a VERY SPECIFIC set of requirement which do not include general purpose availability đŸ¤£

@wjmaggos money can buy, take over or influence JUST mastodon.social and a lot of ActivityPub universe will be compromised. The juice is not worth the squeeze (yet) for "money". If Activity Pub was more federated, then this could not happen.Stats from fediverse observer for may: 1M active users, of which 290k are on mastodon.social, not great, but better than I expected (I expected >>50%).

@cvvhrn Are you going to the star wars canyon to photograph fly bys? How do you know when there will be a time of increased activity?
