made a little static single-file HTML output for the #fennel BOM calculator thingy.I tried with borders running down the left and almost gave up on making sense of the tree structure until I tried this background-alpha-stacking at the end and it works so much better!#theWorkshop

The number of 0x33.board prototypes (both assembled and less so) has reached a threshold where I'm starting to get confused about which is which, what PCB and case revisions they have, and in which city I left them. That means it's time to 🌟INVENT SERIAL NUMBERS🌟

It's 2022 and your computer still won't let you use two cursors

I finally started using the Chocofi keyboard with the Miryoku layout today after having assembled everything and it collecting dust for a bit (too much going on, not a good time to drop to 10wpm).It's a difficult process because any type of work on the computer is a potential opportunity and reason to practice, but also anything you do is slowed down so hard that it can't be considered work anymore.

As soon as you start doing something you want to switch keyboards and *get on with it* and that continuous despair is hard to manage. It also becomes very obvious how having to think about how to type takes away a lot of mental space from e.g. programming and makes it easier to get distracted.

What ended up working pretty well for me was having a long work videocall where I would occasionally take notes without completely compromising the mission. Although I did have to ask for short interruptions because I couldn't even write a word I had decided to write while staying vaguely in the flow of conversation

syncing notes via i2ctop: MIDI + power via USBbottom: only power via USBnext goal is automatically keeping settings (scale, octave, colors...) in sync :)#theWorkshop

Today I made a short rounded metal stick on the lathe, and it's probably the most useful thing I've machined to dateliterally #theWorkshop

Cool, you can export display contents as BMP images from CircuitPython, so it might actually be worth to write a bit of that that lets me manually capture a snapshot of the screen + key colors.Definitely easier than getting the whole firmware working as a simulation without hardware, and still a big timesaver :)

More docs! I think I actually wrote down pretty much everything that's not very subject to change (like firmware internals) now :)also put them up already:https://s-ol.nu/0x33.board#theWorkshop

The new PCBs are here! Had to depanel them and remove mousebites, but I figured out a technique to sand four at a time pretty quickly. And they do tile! a 4x4 grid is pretty massive 😅 #theWorkshop

oh, and I completed the first black MDF case test with its bottom plate.I thought the contrast would be too much but I actually really dig it, probably more than the oiled MDF? I didn't do a great jib taking pictures, bet it actually retains most of the grain quality, it's just a lit more subtle.wdyt? should I be trying 'real colors' next? suggestions? palettes are really not my thing 😬

Heck yeah, it totally works! Also pleasantly surprised by how small this ended up effectively being :)The closing mechanism is working pretty well with this random length elastic I found, when it's closed there's no way it'll come apart accidentally but I'm not worried about it snapping either. The biggest problem is actually that it's hard to fish the band out of the notch.#theWorkshop
