#3dPrinting - Well, waiting time for the USBa-Mini-USB cable now. Just swapped out the Pi and no change.Still doesn't see the Printer attached. This was expected, at some level, as both computers can see a USB WebCam plugged into them. I will admit that the possibility that the problem is with the main board of the CR-10S, has the potential advantage that I can pick up a replacement that has the ABL setup pre-compiled into the code, and it's just an option to activate. Not holding my breath...

I do consider it a 'worst caase' possibility, but I do have the tools and parts to replace the Mini-USB connector if I end up being forced to do that. Pretty much anything but my first choice though.

New cable, same result, the problem is with the connector at the R-0S controll board/cable connection. Now to decide if I'm going to getr an A1 mini today so that I can get a printer online.

No pictures of this, but at the moment I have a cat sleeping mostly over my right shoulder. Why mostly? Because while he's sleeping on the back of the couch, he's wrapped his tail around the left side of my neck. He hasn't don that before. And this is not the first time I've been in the house alone with the cats for the weekend. Much less a Friday night/Saturday morning.

In pretty much every house I've ever lived in, there has been a kitchen cabinet over the refrigerator. These are slowly going to be fading away , or perhaps not so slowly. The problem is that none of them leave enough space between the underside of the cabinet, and the floor for modern refrigerators. because we're reapidly aiming for the day when the refrigerator you set up is effectively a walk in pantry with a frozen foods section, food storage, and pending composting sections.\

The common recommendation when this is brought up as a problem with choosing a new refrigerator is to "Have the cabinet removed. After all, "What do you really use that cabinet for anyway?" For most people it is an inconvenient cabinet that you can't use very well, but we're not 'Most people" now are we? My vision for this cabinet is that this is where the kitchen server and home automation server including alarms, should be resident. There are several advantages to this.\

They are things you don't need to touch often, with modern hardware like a Zima board, they won't draw very much power, and you can access nearly every service they offer with a tablet or phone. The location is nearly always convenient for power unless the electrician who wired your house put in a single outlet for the fridge, you can probably run a low clearance extension cord up into the cabinet, and most home intruders won't root around in that cabinet. \

Give the cabinet some electric locks that don't show to the outside, and give them doors without handles that make them look like the decorative face under your kitchen sink (Which, yes, most of mine have ended up with hidden hinges and trays to hold things out of the way as well) and you will have even fewer people "checking to see what 'valuable dishes you keep there." (none! Dishes that is, what is there is valuable though..)\

There are other advantages as well, especially for home automation. A significant percentage of these are located fairly close to the center of the house. I't is the spot where the refrigerator is likely to have the most stable temperature to work with. The biggest down side I see is that refrigerators have historically dumped a lot of heat into the space above them. Maybe that is an opportunity to consider running a heat pump water heater loop into a utility closet? Another bag of tricks...?

#3dPrinting - You know, this extruder works a lot better if you feed it some filament to extrude? Yeah, bit me on 2 attempts to print this morning. Ah well. The bad part is that I have a filament run out sensor for this printer. Just have to install it, which also means opening up the base of the printer to get to the control board. I believe the firmware allows me to just enable it once it's installed, but fo some reason I was expecting the wiring to be in place. And no, it isn't. I'll survive.

#philosophy - Is the world weird, or is that just a fault in our perceptions based on a false premise that there is, or should be order in the world and space about us?

This has it's liniage in the question of the 70's and 80's regarding people who were tagged as insane and institutionalized, along with the observations from "Catch 22" where a pilot tries to get grounded as insane, only to loose a friend and insist that he needs to go beck into the air, and gets grounded. There's a lot of other weird things going on in that book, but I'm curios if others are considering the question of weird, crazy, etc., not as a flaw of the perceived but of the perceiver.

This is not to belittle the truly tragic situations that various mental illnesses obtain. This is more the observation that physics has well documented the observation that when something happens in physics that you can't explain with the knowledge available to you, the layman may disregard it, but the scientist will see it as entirely new knowledge to develop. The exclamation 'That's odd', or 'that's weird' is what leads the curious mind to explore. Where will this lead us.

Strange things happen when you aren't looking, and truth is stranger than fiction are well known aphorisms. The latter is so true that I'm well aware of one author who tried to publish a story based on actual events in his life. The story only got published (If I recall correctly) in an anthology of other works of his, as a result of editors thinking it too unbelievable.

@stux I was thinking that the solution was to offer to remove their account information from the watch lists of all the most egregious human rights violators, where they are now described in the most woke and easy to complete ways, ant the only way to extend the amount of time available to undo that update is to play your game and submit positive reviews.

@stux I'm not defending congress member's participating in the stock market, but the ability to beat the market by 18-33% really isn't that difficult. As a gamer I saw what happened to NVidia Graphics cards during Covid, and when I set up a backup IRA this last summer, put about 9% into nVidia stock. That stock alone is up 200%, and the portfolio is up 40% as a result. I hadn't considered AI as part of the buying decision, or I might have put more in.

@stux I know it's not for everyone, and had a pretty rough start, but when it comes down to it,, the only time I've spent money on No Man's Sky was when I purchased the game for dew platforms or to get it digitally so that I wouldn't have to have a DVD stuck in the PS4. There was a couple of different purchase levels available, with some unique starships at the time, but other than that, I'm not aware of any 'buy this surprise pack for $1, or that for $10. Not perfect, but not really pay2play.

@stux Oh, to really get them to feel threatened, don't use pink. There are other colors that will park their fear more. I'd say avoid father-daughter events for that, but that seems like a good idea in any case.

@ChrisMayLA6 Part of the reason that the state of Minnesota has set up universal free lunch and breakfast for students has been recognizing that universal free meals cost less to administer than tracking meal eligibility based on public assistance involvement. I don't know about the UK, but the school lunch program in the US came out of WWII, and the military telling schools that the single most important thing schools could do for students educational development was to feed them.
