An Austrian lawyer argues in statement of defence that with the use of #GoogleFonts on the website of his client, no personal data (such as IP addresses) are processed or transferred by Google. The case C-582/14 („Breyer") is used to demonstrate that here dynamic IP addresses are no personal data. #GDPR @echo_pbreyer 🙄https://www.dataprotect.at/2022/09/21/google-fonts-verfahren-die-klagebeantwortung/via: https://mastodon.cloud/@ramichaelseidlitz/109273686260480559

https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/26/23773914/ai-large-language-models-data-scraping-generation-remaking-web"Google is trying to kill the 10 blue links. Twitter is being abandoned to bots and blue ticks. There’s the junkification of Amazon and the enshittification of #TikTok. Layoffs are gutting online media. A job posting looking for an “AI editor” expects “output of 200 to 250 articles per week.” #ChatGPT is being used to generate whole spam sites. #Etsy is flooded with “AI-generated junk.” Chatbots cite one another in a misinformation ouroboros. 1/2

#LinkedIn is using AI to stimulate tired users. #Snapchat and #Instagram hope bots will talk to you when your friends don’t. Redditors are staging blackouts. #StackOverflow mods are on strike. The #InternetArchive is fighting off data scrapers, and “AI is tearing #Wikipedia apart.” The old web is dying, and the new web struggles to be born.""In each case, there’s something about AI’s ability to scale — the simple fact of its raw abundance — that changes a platform." 2/3

@wjmaggos @renchap I think SEPA IBAN transfers and recurrent mandates are this protocol for easy bank transfers with whatever bank you use. That should be good enough for making donations?!

@davidrevoy If #Krita had enough sponsors, I am sure they could pay someone to speed up the feature-complete port to plasma6/#wayland.Don't you think you could use your reach to organise a special fundraising project to fix said issues?

@Linux @eu_os What is incorrect? Can you be more specific?#ReactOS uses US-based Github.https://github.com/reactos/reactosI think that's ok if the exit cost is low. Same for #EU_OS. Once people start using it, they may consider to have a build server in the EU. Do we now need to change the architecture because of this? I do not think so.

@Linux @eu_os I think it would be helpful if in your text on your codeberg account, you introduce the problem better that you identified and how you think it should be solved.I understand that you prefer if a legal entity is registered in the EU. I tell you that Microsoft has Microsoft Ltd. in Dublin. This alone is not enough to keep the exist costs low.A number of bright people from across the world have thought previously about these questions. The outcome is #almalinux and #RockyLinux.

@Linux @eu_os You write further "you want to be outside US jurisdiction?" It sounds as if I have written this somewhere. Did I?Your proposals seem to promote protectionism. I like to find an approach that also works for South America/Africa/etc.How many legal entities does the Linux kernel project require? One per continent? One per country?

@Linux @eu_os So to have a debate on #DigitalSovereignty, the definition is of course important and I have no specific one to offer, because it is a difficult topic.Obviously, the (implied) local jurisdiction is part of your definition. How meaningful is this if all countries wanted to be digital sovereign? Think of horizontal projects such as systemd/kernel.Currently, money and experts are rare and investments must be strategic. #EU_OS cannot fork everything.

@neo @Linux @eu_os We have an open PR in the EU OS gitlab at https://gitlab.com/eu-os/eu-os.gitlab.io/-/merge_requests/6 .Why don't you collect the arguments there?I am still afraid NixOS may not yet be battle-tested in the public sector. I'd like to add an example to https://eu-os.eu/use-cases#notable-migrations if you have one.Who is using #NixOS on the desktop with some 1000 users in a corporate environment?

@Linux @eu_os So if your switch costs or exist costs are low, you may still achieve a substantial improvement for digital sovereignty (for most of its definitions).I am not sure that e.g. ReactOS is cheaper to replace than Fedora. I believe more people in Europe (or Earth except US) are familiar with Fedora than with ReactOS. That's an important factor for the switch/exit costs.

@blog I find #matrix inspiring. My impression on how people at #fosdem interacted with it is also different, more positive. It's difficult to know what the majority of fosdem attendees thinks of matrix until you run proper statistics.
