@rms How do you think you win elections in South Carolina? Or with the Republican base, for that matter?

@ZachWeinersmith Consider that string theory says we have 20 some odd dimensions. But we experience in 3 to 4 dimensions. (Our experience of time is warped by it only going in one direction). So we see a projection of all those dimensions onto the few we grok. Would the difference between 2 and 3 dimensional projections really be significant?

@futurebird Depends on how you define memory. State machines have no data, per se, but retain state. Those are Chomsky type 3. You can use those for regulating all sorts of embedded systems. Then you have stack machines, and tapes. I would, personally, only use term "memory" as of Chomsky type 1 and lower.

@futurebird @bob_zim You said "must a computer have" you did not specify a given use. And, for example, there are lots of cybernetic (in the Wiener sense) of applications where you could just do a feedback control to stabilize a physical device.

@futurebird @bob_zim Once you said "UK economy" and "hydraulics", my mind started switching back and forth between "trickle down" and "pissing contest." Until I realized they are the same thing.

@Radical_EgoCom Now. How well can two separate people agree on the make up of that objective reality?

@Radical_EgoCom Unbiased by cultural conditioning and alignment of subjective wishful thinking?Do you really think so?So when Jef Bezos and Elon Musk honestly discuss a social problem, they will converge on objective reality?Interesting.

@Radical_EgoCom I would trust the common belief of 1.4 billion Chinese (or 1.39 billion baptized Catholics) less than the common understanding of 1000 people each from a different culture. The perceived reality of people from different countries, income levels, level of education, religions, etc. vary greatly.

@Radical_EgoCom And I am saying that 1.4 billion Chinese (more or less) will agree that the Tien An Men incident never happened.1.39 Billion Catholics will think transubstantiation is a fact.I think you are discounting cultural conditioning too much.At least 200 million USA residents believe no matter what that market forces determine reality and it is impossible to do anything that counters the "free" market.

@Radical_EgoCom For me, OK. But, again, if you get two bishops (or Bezos/Musk) comparing their views, I will not find their interpretation of objective reality very convincing. We all come with baggage. You are not going to realize your bad assumptions.

@Radical_EgoCom Who is providing the ground truth for the comparison?I think I would be great for that. You may not care for me being the arbiter. Have you read any Sartre?

@internetarchive @joncamfield But if people start reading books they could start thinking. If current events show us anything, it is that no one wants people to think.

@ZachWeinersmith I think German "Nachkommen" would work. Why not descendents or progeny? I realize that this includes humans, but WTF we are animals, just less adorable.
