@marcan Wait, the speakers on those things are run so close to limits that you have to model temperature? That's crazy (and fascinating)! Does this happen with other speaker systems?

@grammargirl @willoremus Because apparently on the Internet threats work? It is very interesting, in a very creepy way.

@textfiles I assume you've already done the "add to watched, hope they send a discount offer within 24hrs"

@Eramdam @mcc Happy birthday Andi! Along the lines of the preceding post... Ever wonder why there's apparently "direct mode"-like functionality in Windows that you have to have Windows Enterprise to enable? (Beyond just HMD support - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/display/specialized-monitors-compositor ) It's so stuff like this doesn't happen.

@russss @mcc @seldo Oh that makes more sense. At least you can delete the elk.zone out of the URL to get one that works.

@misty Wait people are doing that? How weird. The thing that gets me is the message on a 6th gen Core i5 (which is not on the supported list but meets every other requirement and would certainly work if I installed it directly): "your PC does not currently meet the requirements...". Makes me wonder if they will reduce the artificial system requirements before EOL of Windows 10 so they don't get accused of making as much e-waste but they still get their "gotta buy a new computer" sales boost now.

@niconiconi I think a lot of folks would argue it's also a usability/eye strain issue. That said, I am pretty sure a light mode theme, if consistent, and if the monitor doesn't have brightness cranked to retail floor showoff levels, wouldn't be that different. But some apps light, some dark is a painful mess.

@mcc I like math just fine, but thought experiments, like their "non-thought" counterparts, are not without potential harm. I feel like some folks overlook this.

@AmyZenunim I tried to make a "ceiling X is watching u Y" joke the other day. My peers were too young to get it.
