@taz People seem to think that "being allowed to say things" is the same as "nobody should be allowed to challenge what I say". To anyone tempted to post #racist , #homophobic , #transphobic , #bigoted or #obnoxious crap... that's not how #freedomofspeech works. If they use their freedom to post such shite, others can use theirs to challenge them for it. They can get used to it or change their behaviour. Those are the choices.

@dandylover1 I always try to add Alt Text ... and I just discovered that on Pixelfed you can switch on a setting that forces you to add Alt Text. Great idea so I've turned it on on my Pixelfed account.

Mr. #Starmer is right. The UK's Supreme Court has the final say in how the UK's laws are to be interpreted. If they conclude that according to UK law a woman must, by definition, be a biological woman, that's what the UK's laws currently say.But he is wrong when he presents that as the final word. He is the head of the #UK's government. If its current laws are anti-trans then the it's the UK's government's job to come up with better laws.What a weasel.

@stux and as an EU citizen living in Ireland, i.e. outside the Schengen zone even those minimal passport checks are a pain in the neck. Last year we went to Prague via Düsseldorf. Off the plane in D'dorf we needed the toilet and that delayed us. We arrived at an abandoned passport control and it took ages for some bored person to come and wave us through. 2nd leg? Got off the plane in Prague and walked straight out of the airport.We should tell the UK to eff off, and join Schengen.Rant over

@dcoderlt well in fairness even Germany was eventually welcomed back to "the world". After an unconditional surrender, the Nuremberg trial and 44 years of being split in two.In Russia's case they should leave Ukraine. ALL of Ukraine, including Crimea. And then make reparations for the damage and hurt they caused. And that's barely enough for starters.But after something like that, sure. We can't hold a grudge forever.

@aral exactly. The EU needs to mandate that 1. Every browser needs to, by default, be set to allow "strictly necessary cookies" only.2. Every site that wants to serve EU users must honour this setting.3. Impose massive fines on sites that don't do this or that choose to interpret "strictly necessary only" in "creative" ways.So that anybody who does not want other cookies has to exactly nothing to achieve that.

@futurebird There are some 12,000 species of ants and they have a proven track record of surviving over 100 million years. As opposed to 300 primate species that have been evolving for about half that time, and apes half of that again. So yeah my money's on the ants.

@ChrisMayLA6 The UK needs to realise that the EU will never simply offer it a buffet to choose from what it likes. A customs union for goods and services is inextricably linked with freedom to travel. You can't have one without the other. And I hope that one of the non negotiable preconditions for a customs union will be the UK joining Schengen so we, here in Ireland, can finally do the same.
