@viciousviscosity Also, in case it's not abundantly clear, I enjoy tinkering with computers for fun as well as my day job. E.g. customizing how bsd.network looks:

@viciousviscosity Yep, courtesy of Greasemonkey. It's funny how little tweaks here and there can be so satisfying for stuff I use a lot. (E.g. particular web sites that put the main text in a narrow column - sometimes just a single line that removes the fixed width setting makes the site so much nicer to read.)

@viciousviscosity Of course! (Might go with carbon fiber, just to make it harder for anyone to smash it. No reason.)

@viciousviscosity *shudder* I've been very fortunate in *not* having to work with that particular type of logic-immune person more than a handful of times. But thinking about those times still makes me twitch. (One early PR director was the sort who'd ask us to cross a technical canyon via Looney Tunes physics. "It's too long a jump - we can't jump that far, we'll plummet into the chasm." "So break it down, make 2 or 3 jumps!" *sound of head meeting wall*)Bookmarked for the future.

@viciousviscosity *Slightly* more seriously, IME variations on "Well, all I know is..." often come as a rejection of an argument/analysis/evidence that the speaker doesn't like. Phrasing it that way is more comforting than saying "I could consider what you're saying, and possibly re-evaluate my position, but I don't wanna! So there!".

@ParadeGrotesque @mwlucas Love it! I can picture it now....*bright cheery voice* "Good morning everyone! I'll be your pace car/motivational coach today! As part of the service, I'll be offering various mantras to help you perform your best!" :flan_hurrah:β "Starting now!"*Death metal growl* "TOO TIRED TO MOVE IS TOO TIRED TO LIVE!!!" :flan_evil:β

@ParadeGrotesque @mwlucas Yep, that works. Throw in some crazy eyes, a manic grin, maybe some tooth paint to hide the corners of one's teeth (makes it look like they are filed to points). Ya know, just pretend you're dressing up for one of your fancier author photo shoots!

Today's adventure - resurrecting my old home server (ran FreeBSD 9, has been turned off for some time) as a workstation with FreeBSD 12. 32-bit cpu + 1.5GB RAM. The adventure part is tuning ZFS to work without starving, or cratering the machine. Could run without ZFS, but it's not fun to go backwards like that. And the HDDs were old when I was given them, so mirroring is a damn good idea.
