It is 2:41, but is it the first or the second 2:41 of the night? Fuck DST, fuck it hard! And yes, it is summer time that is the wrong one! #dst

Stewed macaroni, the big and serious Swedish sister of mac'n'cheese:Boil a litre of soya milk, add 5 decilitres of macaroni (that's how Swedes measure food, 2 cups for the rest of us) and 1/2 tsp salt, cook for 20-25 minutes, until milk is reduced to a thick sauce. Add pepper. Maybe some nutmeg. Eat with plantballs or on their own.(Haven't tried other milks, some do use oat. Maybe try oat cream.) #vegan #food

Cleaning tips:1. Rust is removed with oxalic acid, not with vinegar. Use gloves, it is toxic. (If you use vinegar your tools will only rust more.)2. Do not mix baking soda and vinegar before cleaning. They cause a dramatic reaction, but that reaction needs to happen in whatever you are cleaning, if at all. Baking soda is scrubby and alkaline. Vinegar removes limescale. They cancel each other out. 3. Baking soda is scrubby enough and gentle enough to clean baked in food (that remains after dishwashing) from enamelware, but use it dry with a gentle sponge first. Water makes it less scrubby. Non food grade baking soda is cheaper.4. Baking soda and vinegar reaction might help unclog the drain... maybe, I do not know, not in my experience. In my experience nothing milder than lye ever worked, so use a drain cleaner containing lye (do not forget to protect your eyes and skin).5. Baking soda might help neutralise smells in the refrigerator, but if that doesn't work get some activated charcoal. 6. Do not mix washing up liquid with baking soda, vinegar, or other stuff. Commercial cleaning products are formulated that way for a reason. If mixing with water, do not do that in advance, because you are diluting the preservatives and it might spoil (unless the instructions say otherwise).#cleaning

Cleaning tips continued:7. Baking soda is not nearly as powerful as many (influencers) claim. It doesn't degrease kitchen surfaces, that's what washing soda does (do wear gloves). Caustic soda does as well, but chances are you do not need it. It is used in industry. Washing soda is also in laundry powders and you can make your own. 8. Oxygen based bleach is great. Not necessarily Vanish Oxi, cheap store brands are the same. There are different formulas for coloured and for white laundry (I guess the white one has some bluing added). I add it to every load, regardless of what I am washing, and that way I never need to wash anything hot, the stains get removed and my clothes do not smell. It does lighten black clothes a bit, but it doesn't damage cotton fibres like chlorine bleach would.9. Skip the fabric softener. Do not use vinegar either, because it damages the rubber seal. What can be used instead is laundry sanitiser, but after oxi that might not be necessary. I do use it because I never iron anything. 10. Sunlight removes green pumpkin seed oil stains left on kitchen towels after washing. Even if you do not have a clothes line outside, you can hang the towels in the window. It only takes a few hours, and it doesn't matter if the towels are already dry. #cleaning

Cleaning tips continued:11. All components of dishwashing tabs or pods that are called 3, or 4, or 7 in one get dissolved at the same time. If using them, you could still benefit from adding salt and rinsing aid to your dishwasher. If your dishes are especially dirty, you might also want to sprinkle some dishwashing powder on the dishwasher door for the prewash. 12. If using a low heat dishwasher program, do wash dishes hot every now and then to kill the microbes in the dishwasher. Clean the filter.13. Also clean the washing machine filter. Best do it just before washing towels because you are going to need some towels in front of it to soak up the water that will come out when you remove the filter. 14. Use hooks above the sink to dry wooden utensils before putting them away. Do oil them from time to time. Best with linseed oil.15. Water stains on a wooden tray or table even after drying? Re-oil them. 15. Difficult to remove radiator covers? Clean the radiators with a radiator brush and a vacuum from the downside. Use a mirror to be sure you have cleaned between all the ribs. 16. Cover the top of the upper cabinets and fridge with paper napkins or cling film so that you only need to replace them from time to time, and not also dust up there. #cleaning

Cleaning tips continued:17. Get some glass display boxes or domes to cover tiny trinkets that like to collect dust. 18. Limescale build-up preventing toilet from flushing properly? This is a tip from the plumber. Buy a a litre of 19% hydrochloric acid. Open the toilet tank. There is a pipe that leads directly into the toilet, probably in the middle of the tank. Take a lot of toilet paper, fold it, and squeeze it under the rim at the back of the toilet bowl where the water from the tank comes. Pour the hydrochloric acid into the pipe opening in the toilet tank. Leave for an hour or so then flush. Also great for removing limescale stains in the toilet bowl. Do wear gloves and eye protection, and have in mind that hydrochloric acid eats through latex (I learned it the hard way).19. For the kettle use citric acid to remove limescale. It might take longer but it smells better than vinegar. 20. If possible clean your bagless vacuum outside, still into a trash bag, of course, but there is no harm in a bit of dust ending up on the ground. 21. Use hair and lint catchers, such as these: https://www.rossmann.de/de/ideenwelt-ideenwelt-ideenw-anti-fusselbaelle-8er-set-gruen/p/4068134010599 in your washing machine, especially if you have companion animals, are shedding a lot of hair yourself, or, like me, alternate between black and white loads. #cleaning

@malte The worst thing one can do for climate is reproduce: https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/1748-9326/aa7541/metaBut, of course, people do not want to hear that. If anything, they dump the responsibility for their offsprings' emissions onto those offsprings themselves (who had no choice in coming into the existence). Humans also hate to be told that they should stop consuming animal products (except billionaires).
