@12 @zhuowei I know I'm off topic but it turns out @i_lost_my_bagel did overlapping Linux and Windows installs on btrfs and it like at least half worked! https://www.lilysthings.org/blog/windows-on-btrfs/

@foone (Sent me down a rabbit hole re: Dynix. 190K lines of a data-centric flavor of BASIC! 😮)

@whitequark @0x47df Could you use your drive over a 10km data cable? For when you don't have space on your desk naturally. Maybe you'd need to relax some timing stuff from the spec

@foone Fritchens Fritz, who takes a lot of photos of delidded CPU dice, looked at a running Zen 2 chip with no cooler under a thermal cam. The self protection logic keeps moving the work to a less overheated core: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aTYIT2_KEQE

@foone need to make weirdly precise marketing material to document it like "support for all your favorite visible glyphs and modifiers"

@futurebird I would not pass on kids just *because* you want to write fiction -- life is long and more experiences can enrich the fiction. I think it is mostly about if you want kids. Wouldn't pre-emptively give up on fiction-writing-while-raising-kids though yeah ages 0-3 probably not the easiest ones for a side project

@aliss Meanwhile, while they didn't evolve the core game mechanics at all the AI players became practically aimbots. No one can beat them!

@futurebird I had a 10" netbook a while which at the time I found perfectly convenient to type on but getting it back out much later seems ridiculously tiny

@futurebird Datacenter outages today often have to do w/power, plus power means cooling and can't trust fans forever. If I want something to last super long, power-sippy becomes a top design priority.Just vibes, but fiber networking feels like something we might still have in 50 or 75 years, like we've stumbled on the 'right' approach to transmission. Sending silly bandwidth over silly distances through cheap optics smaller than your finger.

@foone so you're right: it's ~1/290,000th, aka part, of why the game is 29 gigabytes!

@futurebird Mexico City is full of this. The historical city center overlaps with the footprint of Tenochtitlan from when most of the modern city's area was underwater. Work on an electrical substation ended up uncovering things from 800 years ago! https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/construction-workers-uncover-massive-800-year-old-aztec-dwelling-mexico-city-180980079/

@futurebird Someone did a neat project visualizing Tenochtitlan vs. the city today: https://tenochtitlan.thomaskole.nl/ -- there's also a 3D viewer at https://retratodetenochtitlan.mx/

@futurebird Last one in this rant--there was a survey in 2021 in which a (slim) majority favored renaming the city to México-Tenochtitlan, an idea I love (though, of course, it's none of my business) just to rub in younger capitals' faces just how much history the city has 😂 https://www.elfinanciero.com.mx/encuestas/2021/03/30/le-cambiamos-el-nombre-a-la-cdmx-el-54-de-los-capitalinos-quiere-que-se-llame-mexico-tenochtitlan/
