       @NoBeret I know the notes were found and the tapes for the experiments which show coercion (no shit) and that people claimed after the fact that they knew it was a ruse (of course they would). It's also in line with a lot of other research. Apparently replicated here but I can't read the full text. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1559-1816.1999.tb00134.x

       @FortyTwo @NoBeret That's a nice summary. From memory, I think the final prod was often required after they'd heard the learner put the pain into words. You having dueling pressures, the pressure from the authority figure and the pressure from the learner. When the pressure is unidirectional it's somewhat easier, like the nurse who administered ear drops to the anus with full compliance from the patient after the doctor shortened right ear to r ear.

       @Sophistifunk 100% agree. It's really annoying.

       @ScoWer22 There are a bunch of Republicans who would be really happy to see the end of Trump. I know a few Republican voters who are pro Haley. I think the Israel Palestine thing spurs her popularity. When people want revenge they look to warmongers.

       @ScoWer22 Trump is on the Epstein flight logs.

       @ScoWer22 I've heard that quote too but not the attribution. And he apparently banned Epstein from Mar-a-lago. If Trump was one of Epstein's clients I kind of think they'd have led the lawfare with that. That would have actually destroyed him.

       @CSB At least with things like Buffy, she's purposely exceptional. Echo is a deaf cripple with no super powers - if I remember correctly from the arrow shooty thing. Can't they at least do a backstory with super powers? I wonder about the effect on young women. Are they more likely to enter fights with men because they've been propagandized their entire life that it will work out great?

       @CSB Hmm at 20% of the population that doesn't seem like as great an advantage as coming from Krypton.

       @matthew I don't use e/os but they say they build with microg and I use a microg build of LineageOS on a pixel 2. You can buy anything that's on the lineage OS supported list but Google's phones are actually the easiest to degoogle because there are so many developer eyes on them. Then you can also go the graphene OS route if you decide degoogling is too hard. Personally, I went the local nextcloud route to provide the "cloud services".

       @CSB Can you just connect them together so they can chat without the middle man? I wonder how long it would take to devolve into a new language.

       @DaddyO I looked up the plot and it seemed very familiar. I realized I'd seen the 1963 remake Move Over Darling. I guess Hollywood has always recycled stuff they know works rather than creating anew.

       @DaddyO Move Over Darling is quite sweet. It's James Garner and Doris Day and they have good chemistry. I'll definitely watch My Favorite Wife. Anything with Cary Grant is worth watching.

       @DaddyO Good point. I hadn't thought of it in those terms. My Favorite Wife was an adaption of a stage play and there was a lot of that too. I think the reasons today are basically the same though: it worked before, so it'll work again. Also people refuse to watch movies that are too old for some reason.

       @leyonhjelm @DaddyO My favorite Shakespeare is Jarman's version of The Tempest but I have a soft spot for Jarman. I try to see every film adaption I come across. I don't think it fits in to the casting mentioned. There are so many bad adaptions. I actually like Wheedon's Much Ado About Nothing. Why is it when a stage actor comes to the screen they are still so well liked? Stewart in STNG, Malcovich in Dangerous Liasons. They act like the actors in 40s-60s movies.

       @DaddyO @leyonhjelm No, I'll have to look that up. The cover is enticing. I like the Burton/Taylor Shrew. It's of it's time. Olivier is good in anything, even playing a Nazi in a cage in a popcorn movie. I like his Othello and Hamlet. There's nothing wrong with basically filming a stage play imo. If anything it's more authentic. The best filmed versions of Death of a Salesman I've seen Hoffman/Malcovich was basically that. It's different from watching a live production but it works.

       @Mummabear @carolen I wonder what the point of no return is? How often do cameras have to be cut down for them to be seen as unsustainable.

       @Mummabear These relative stats are also misleading. They want you to assume that children have a high chance of being hospitalized, which is bullshit. Also these stats will be based on prevalence of flu in vaccinated and unvaccinated populations, ignoring healthy user bias. The population that avoids vaccine by intent is still very small.
