@clive the 1993 example is pretty amazing.

@clive I jumped through some more hoops, recreated it in a vector drawing app so it was my original artwork, created a shop, now I think it should work. I get 50 cents if you buy one: https://www.cafepress.com/tomstees1.1092534863

@simon very cool. I’ve tried a couple ways of accessing it in azure so far with no success but I’ve never tried huggingface before this

@simon great explanation of how you used this new feature. I’m curious, have you ever used GitHub Copilot? The initial version isn’t quite the same as chatting, though I know a new version was announced recently that sounds more like a chat interface like this interpreter mode.

@simon I haven't tried it for writing articles in Markdown yet. Thanks for the tip! I've played around with it for writing code. Will be interesting to see how "Copilot X" compares to the Open AI code inspector you've written about https://github.com/features/preview/copilot-x

@simon I found this Google Collab setup that returns the first man on the moon prompt in a second, but only with the short answer. Using the 8GB version. No setup required! https://colab.research.google.com/drive/1A8Prplbjr16hy9eGfWd3-r34FOuccB2c?usp=sharing#scrollTo=qQIBoZHdGF4I

@simon what's your take on the copyrighted material included in RedPajama through CommonCrawl? It seems to me that one could train a model on only text that has been shared freely and that might be more ethical. cc @jimgar

@simon @jimgar not sure I follow. Are you saying that crawler data, which includes copyrighted material shouldn’t be used by commercial companies and LLMs are inherently flawed because of that? If so, I’m not saying you’re wrong, just trying to understand.

@simon @jimgar the legal issue might be resolved soon. if @binarybits@instinctd.com is right, Stable Diffusion could lose the lawsuit against them. I buy his argument in favor of that. If that's the case, LLMs trained on sets that only allow that use might really take off https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/04/stable-diffusion-copyright-lawsuits-could-be-a-legal-earthquake-for-ai/

@clive love the comparison to the mini. Will be curious to follow Telo and see@if they find success. Love the idea of smaller utility vehicles.

@clive I had no idea e-bikes could reduce car miles so much! Thanks for sharing these promising results. Makes me look at them in a whole new way.

@clive wonderful piece, indeed. Once upon a time, I was a music performance and computer science double major. Everyone asked me if I was making “computer music.” I said, “No. I’m a classically trained Bassoon player in symphony orchestras.” No music I’ve made on a computer has been satisfying to me. I also hope digital devices become more like pianos. I’ve had a piano in every house I’ve owned.

@clive I can't read the article because I haven't paid Medium anything and haven't even considered it until now. Love the topic and have had lots of debate about this, some with unexpected anger from a long term cyclist who didn't agree with my take that riding with normal pedals and normal shoes was actually just find and no research I found proved to me that the clips (or clipless clips) made any difference. I have fallen with clips in and hurt myself because of the clips.

@clive I appreciate your potential happy ending and the comparison to early faked photographs and how people learned to spot the techniques. I do hope that comes to be true here, too.

@clive @shauna reminds me of an incident while riding in a back cab in London over the break. A scooter passed in the right where there was no lane and at some point the scooter and the cab bumped into each other (lightly). The van pulled over, the driver and rider had a quick chat, then he comes back in, pulls away and says cheerily “that was almost an accident!”
