Why I haven't been streaming after finishing Gold Mine Run; see: https://www.usebox.net/jjm/coding/#whats-newTL;DR: I don't like Twitch/YouTube ad based model, so I don't feel like contributing content to them. I'm thinking about viable alternatives.

@ggtr1138 I know, I'm considering if I manage to make it sustainable. My "Making a DOS game" project is 20 videos, 32+ hours. That's a lot of data for someone to host!So I wouldn't mind a way of doing streaming, with some chat so there's community, and then perhaps keeping a couple of the latest videos for a while. Would that work? Can a peertube instance handle say 20 concurrent viewers when I'm streaming? If it is yes, I may try that.

Yep, I would prefer if we stayed on BST.More light on the morning? well, I'll be working indoors anyway. And when I finish my day, it'll be dark sooner. It is pretty shit TBH.

@josemanuel I don't switch the lights unless is absolutely necessary. E.g. sometimes bad weather limits the daylight, even al midday. Yet, by 8am there's plenty of light even in BST. And I'm the one dev that starts the day that early on my team, so for the rest this change means even less value.

@d6 And that's on top of Google's interested gatekeeping of the information. You are never going to get the best information *for you* if that goes against their benefits. Ads and promoted content are the core problem.Does it matter that people game the system if the system is corrupt by design? And the core problem is what provides the incentive for this type of action. Not sure how can be fixed tbh.

It is fine. But instead of "AI generated description" for images, you could say "automatically generated description" and you avoid a buzzword.Like my spellchecker underlined in red a typo and with right click it provides "spelling suggestions"; could we say "AI spelling suggestions"? At some point it would have been possible to say that, because of the novelty. A bit overselling it, isn't it?That's what buzzwords do. Add "cyber" to anything, for example, and it turns into shit. So does AI.

Right. Tonight I'll do one of the last refactoring I believe could save me some RAM.And then it is probably it. Add one or two enemies and level design.

And that's the demon done, I think.None of the enemies is extremely difficult to deal with one on one, but with numbers and some platforming, things may be different.#amstrad #gamedev

By the way, the character is based on Patton Burgess from Fairhaven lore, born in 1850. He showcases a moustache typical of early 1900s. Just for context, because there's so much personality you can add to a 8x24 sprite with 2:1 aspect ratio. When the loading screen is ready, that should make things a bit clearer, I hope!

@aral I believe it could be like that for historical reasons. It was called Gnome Control Center, but at some point UX people at Red Hat (via Fedora) started to call things with generic names; so that's how you end with "Settings" -- but they didn't change the binary names (I may guess it could be a bad idea in some really generic names). All copying Mac OS because...So there you go. I gave up on Gnome long time ago. I feel your pain.

@istvan @aral you may be right. Very mobile first, perhaps. In the case of Gnome I suspect it was just copying Mac OS.After a while I accepted that Gnome was no longer for me and I moved to XFCE. Now I'm a i3 WM happy user though.

Just realised that has been a year since I moved to this instance, let's do a new #introduction! I love OSS and #gamedev (#ZxSpectrum, #Amstrad CPC, #MSX, #C64 and #DOS). Also regular dev in #Scala, #Python, #C and #Haskell. My games are always free to download and play:https://www.usebox.net/jjm/I'm currently finishing "The Heart of Salamanderland" for the Amstrad CPC, that will have a physical release by PolyPlay (see my Brick Rick for an example!).See you around!
