It's unfortunate our society uses euphemisms like "transphobe" and "homophobe", because the -phobe construct usually implies a personal issue with being afraid of something, not an intent to oppress an entire class of people.

If you, as a cis person, want to know what growing up as a trans woman in this society is like, one manifestation of the trauma is in becoming a fully grown human and still, in many cases, having the nagging belief that everyone sees you as a predator, maybe even other trans people, despite all of the kindness and grace you have done your very best to practice.And yes, all of these recent state laws will hurt another generation that way.

This evening I was reminded of the Old River Control Structure https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_River_Control_Structure , which I first learned about when I read John McPhee's _The Control of Nature_.Somewhere between that and living in a 67 year old house built on a slab on expansive clay soil, I started to realize that geotechnical and hydraulic engineering is *everywhere*, and most of us never even notice it.

I'm reading parts of _Whipping Girl_ for the first time in years. Starting with chapter 19, "Putting the Feminine Back into Feminism".The outset of my transition had a lot to do with being a woman and very little to do with femininity, but recently my femininity reminded me that it's inescapable.

It's weirdly affirming and real that the ways we hack our bodies mean that the desired changes come along with some unpleasant ones. Three to five days out of every 28 I get to experience digestive cramps, digestive ickiness, less confidence and negative emotions in general.
