And therein lies the con of mining rigs. 6 months after purchase they are superceded and outstripped by the next generation. The ONLY people making real money out of crypto mining are the rig manufacturers and shady miners stealing their energy.https://indieweb.social/@web3isgreat/109275126436203872

@Raspberry_Pi Which reminds me, I backed a DAC project a few years back, then heard nothing since. Hmmm...

From the bird site and WeOwnIt (https://twitter.com/We_OwnIt) and Dr Andrew Myerson (https://twitter.com/andrewmeyerson)..."Our striking junior doctors are fighting for what they deserve and to save our NHS."https://twitter.com/We_OwnIt/status/1635019284178173952(PS: Why is masto marking this as sensitive, and more importantly why can I not unmark it as such?)

@billt On the subject of thermal cameras, certainly on the old web cams they had to have IR filters over the CCDs because their sensitivity range was well beyond the optical. My oldest Logitech could be converted to an IR cam by stripping the IR filter and replacing it with one made from a fully exposed and processed optical negative.

Over the last 30 years what was an anarchic open-world utopia (OK, so I'm laying it on a BIT thick, but not much) has slowly been borged into an ever-decreasing number of corporate gardens, where the fences become walls, and the walls grow higher by the year, and restrictive anti-competetive practices are normalised.http://www.igregious.com/2023/03/gmail-is-breaking-email.htmlCredit to @lproven. Long shot...I have an microSD card belonging to a friend, with the last photos she has of her late husband. Unfortunately under magnification it seems to have a hairline fracture. *Very* occasionally Linux recognises the card in a USB reader and tools can read the first 4K block forensically, but it's usually physically unresponsive and not even showing up as a device. I'm sure an expensive lab could recover it, but that's well out of reach. Any sane ideas welcome. #repair #maker #datarecovery

@howtophil I tried to dd from it on Linux. (dd if=/dev/sdx of=sdk.img bs=512) That's how I know it's the first 4K that's readable - I get 8 512-byte "sectors" before it stalls, and eventually times out. 512 bytes comes from fdisk telling me that's the "sector" size, although presumably its an abstraction and the underlying storage is actually 4K.

@aral Those with wealth vested in business want a work force educated to the point of being useful drones; capable of functional intelligence whilst working, but no independence of thought outside of that.

@Geri Not justifying the ban, but they did spray the engines (and by the looks of the video they sprayed *into* the engines) putting the operability and safety of two large aircraft at risk. Those engines will require complete strip-down and rebuild before they can be operated safely. Was it an act of terror? No. Was it very, very ill-considered? Yes. Could it have put lives at risk? Directly, no, not if inspection protocols are followed. Should they group be banned? No.

@Geri It does mean, however, that our air defences are unexpectedly two refuellers down for as long as it takes to inspect and repair them. And invading a military base is - at any time - a pretty dumb thing to do.
