@Gina I try to make mine daily, not based on some random grouping of numbers 😀I think every morning about my goals and how lucky I am to have been born, by no effort from me, in a situation (place, parents, etc) that is more comfortable that 95% of the rest of the world.

@Gina We just went through this, albeit for a much easier use case, general work, not 4K video editing. It's obvious you need the CPU cores, RAM and SSD that will be costly, but even more important IMO is the service policy. It's why we bought at a local store whose warranty service we've already experienced. They have an great appointment system, the people are trained and patient. They do the job.

@Gina (2/2) Service because you're probably not going to be able to fix a laptop. Sending it to some distant service center is a big time sink. There's no back and forth about the problem, so sometimes, they don't fix it or can't reproduce it.

General question: is federation ever going to really be a mainstream thing? I'm on several of the instances/pods, I ran a Masto instance for a short time. I'm getting back in to Matrix/elements, created by folks I've know for years. There are also many ideas I've tried and passed on. I try EVERYTHING! That's why I'm trying Audiothing

Just as a side point, I don't actually care if federation becomes mainstream, I was just idly wondering about it. Truth is, many enthuse about stuff *because* it isn't mainstream. That includes all kinds of marginal open source projects and some major ones. I use what works best for me. Sometimes it's worth paying for these, other times you pay and find out the service is crap.

@Gina You need to max out memory if you want to edit 4K video. You might want to do some research on the specs on YouTube, finding the few capable reviewers. I haven't looked to see if he has one on this but Ant is very knowledgable https://www.youtube.com/user/antpruitt/videos

@rudolf @Gina One of the issues with travelling now is that you may go somewhere, have a great time and then find you can come back! There are not so many places to go these days, but hopefully in the coming 4 to 8 weeks, the wave will subside and allow us to be careless once again.
