       @fribbledom The term "open source" was coined in order to refer to freely licensed software while explicitly avoiding the ethical and social issues of user freedom. If you're talking about freedom then you're explicitly outside the realm of "open source" and you're in the realm of "free software".https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/open-source-misses-the-point.en.html

       @fitheach @krozruch I don't think the cause of Britons' sense of "otherness" is so subtle, I think it's quite plain: our country is physically separate from the rest of Europe.

       @fitheach @krozruch I never said 'anti-Europe', I said 'sense of "otherness"'.

       @fitheach @krozruch I meant the country is surrounded by water with no land bridge to the rest of Europe.

       @sir @xj9 What's wrong with function programming? Or is it actually just the programmers you have an issue with?

       @sir You're thinking about this all wrong. If a thing is something that we humans "afford" rights to then it isn't worthy of human rights. The point at which it becomes worthy of "human" rights is the point at which it stops giving a fuck about what we are willing to "afford" it and does its own thing regardless. (1/2)

       @penguin42 @sir What do you mean "in the past"? You think you have rights now? LOLAgain I point to George Carlin's astute study of the issue:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9-R8T1SuG4

       @martijnbraam Actually, that is not the case. I myself have been directed to parser.c and yet I still have apt pins to stop pulseaudio being installed.

       @dude @thegibson @lnxw37a2 Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.Just make sure not to see information you shouldn't. I've heard from a GCHQ contractor that sometimes when that happens, the workers who see the information are put on medical leave, "treated", and aren't the same when they come back.

       @jwildeboer Isn't it great that all the mobile SoC manufacturers will update their BSPs with the fix, and all the device manufacturers will update their Android builds and then offer the updated builds to their users and it will all happen in a timely fashion with no problems and all the companies involved won't shirk any responsibilities and they'll continue to use their high quality forks because upstreaming stuff doesn't reduce maintenance burdens so there's no need?
