@futurebird People ask questions to figure out if they are alone in their confusion ( existential or scientific ). However, education is so badly implemented, that the masses are scientifically illiterate. In the absence of free education, a college degree is too expensive. People do a crass cost/benefit, ROI analysis on going to college, which is reduced to a means to make ends meet, rather than feed the head & elevate oneself.1/n

@onan That one is epic! An impossibly brilliant act of laziness to follow. My story is not nearly as impressive.For a couple of years, I studied Mechanical Engineering in India, living 5 kilometers away from college, commuting to campus 6 days a week, going to the steel plant to get some hands on metal work training, staying up till 3am, hunched over a drafting board, making engineering drawings, blasting AC/DC, sweating on the drawings, using white bread to neatly erase pencil smudges.1/n

@onan Ate with my roommate at a cheap local eatery on a monthly plan. Goes without saying that sometimes I would be dead tired. The hole in the wall where we ate was actually very grungy and unhygienic. One evening, after a hard day of school, I sat eating dinner, when I found a huge cockroach in my curry. I was too tired, and hungry, and didn't have the energy to complain. The roach had been cooked. So I quietly put the cockroach aside, pulled the wool over my own eyes, and continued eating.

@futurebird I used to live in the Catskills Mountains and the farming community had bumper stickers and posters all over the place: "NO FARMS. NO FOOD." , "SUPPORT YOUR FARMERS".They were also largely Thump supporters.Maybe make a funny commercial:"SUPPORT FARMERS", and send them away to a better place in retirement, to Sunshine Farms, a retirement community for farmers, and producers of "Soylent Green".Remember: "NO FARMERS, NO FOOD".
