The Rittenhouse case is fascinating to me because it's a Rorschach test upon which media biases and social zeitgeist have been projected. The videos + facts of the case inevitably support the verdict, and yet people are content to judge it on their own interpretations instead.

@amiko @sneak While this sounds like a great idea, my experience is that Matrix is just not *there* yet. It's tight security is so secure as to make it basically unusable for me.

@amiko @sneak So as I write this "Element" on my Android device can't access any previous chats with my friends because I had to change my password. It game me the option to authorize them using sessions on other devices but I presently don't have sessions on other devices. I did at one point but I gave up on them for exactly the same reason. Just today I tried to install Seaglass on my MacBook and it won't login due to a password error despite the fact that the same password worked fine on Element... I cannot explain this. I could go on... but yeah... not ready for primetime.

@kev I mostly listen to Youtube Music because it's the only one that allows me to upload my own collection of indie music. But I am sticking with Spotify as well because they did exactly what they should have done in this circumstance -- continued providing the service they provide.

@werwolf @kev I don't buy the "doesn't give artists very much money" argument anymore. The artsits who are popular and do well make a lot of money from Spotify. The *real* issue is that they don't make the absolute killing they did slinging physical media in record stores in the 80s and 90s.

@fribbledomThe cynicism on here is ... ick. Web3 as I understand it, is the rebuilding of web technologies on decentralized services using crypto technologies, blockchain, and distributed systems.

@wjmaggos Your throwing the baby out with the bathwater though. Advertising is great, as long as you're looking for what they're selling. Example: I love when Bandcamp sends me info about its upcoming Friday sale or artists I might be interested in based on previous purchases. And, needless to say, that can give those artists some much-needed exposure/sales.

@wjmaggos It would be more accurate to say that advertising is bad when it misses its target or robs your attention from matters you believe are more important. So the goal would be to find a way to allow people to opt-in for the advertising opportunities they feel are humane and relevant. (And by humane, I mean they shouldn't be mining your personal data to target you without consent).

@wjmaggos Woah! http://rynothebearded.com is a huge discovery -- curated new music that's free for download. This is amazing. Thanks for that.

@apps it's a good idea but before you go in that direction you should make sure it's already the best / preferred mobile client or you'll lose your users.

She thrust this at me enthusiastically -- asked if I "liked the middle ages". I said I had no idea. I guess I like it on TV. She said I could recreate it. I said that didn't seem like a good idea. "We make things and have big feasts!", offered her friend, dressed like a maid.

@apps @cberetta Why would you want to do that? It's a handy service for folks who want to post content on both platforms.

@jeffThis is baffling to me. Why would you block a whole journalism instance? Instance blocking is a threat to the integrity of Mastodon as a reliable service. @matthewkeys @freemo
