My routine is pretty similar. Important files only get manually copied to a secondary HDD in my desktop. That backup gets copied to an external. I also then encrypt a copy for cloud storage although I use pCloud over Dropbox. I use Timeshift before major updates to things such as Mesa or the kernel as well just to be safe.

I've always been interested in a Fairphone but sadly they don't ship them to Canada. Luckily I have similar options available although not quite as good in terms of upgradability. Hopefully other operating systems support the Fairphone 3 down the road such as Ubuntu Touch; Manjaro Arm or Postmarket OS.

I tend to be more of a "ends justify the means" kind of person when it comes to terminology. If you have to break a term down in a way that is not going to be 100% accurate but it gets the person in question to consider using GIMP over Photoshop; Linux over Windows; VLC over Windows Media Player; Firefox over Edge; etc then I will never get mad about the use of the term because we now have one more person using free or open source software. If you tried to be more accurate but it goes over their head and they just shrug it off then what benefit has been done ? The way I see terms myself is free software gives you more freedom in terms of what you can do with the software where open source software lets you view the source code but may not allow you much more than that. The best way I have heard it put is "all free software is open source but not all open source software is free".

My take on it is I would rather have users playing Windows games on Linux then Windows games on Windows. As for myself I am not opposed to buying Windows games but I have conditions. I look at my wishlist and ask myself if there are any native games I want as well and if there are I buy those first. Also I refuse to pay full price for a Windows game. They haven't earned full price by not making a Linux version.

My main reason for not using my Pinephone CE as a daily driver was the short battery life. I had forgotten about the keyboard case they offer having an internal battery so that may fix my issue or at least make it a smaller issue. Thanks for reminding me of that in the newsletter you sent.

I usually use Dino although Gajim is an alright option as well.

Any benefit to having 32GB of RAM with the onboard GPU ? I have heard that they can make use of it but at the same time my gut says even if it could use more VRAM that it wouldn't have the horsepower to make a difference on GPU intensive tasks.
