@clipperchip In Germany we might have to remove content, but not discussion or links or opinion. No worries - 🏴☠️👍.

@clipperchip Sure, but it's nice to know that we don't necessarily have to do much or anything on our own instances. And I don't see the general instances cracking down heavily either - unless sharing becomes detrimental or something.

@clipperchip It still works as it should - just checking.

@mjg59 Isn't all of this supposed to be optimized through xsave/xrstor? Or are we past that for some reason?

@mjg59 I thought that this is standard at this point. I see the conundrum with regards to support flags though. This architecture is getting messy... 🙂

@mjg59 I would love something similar - just a simple VM multiplexer that I can run several normal systems on. Kinda like Qubes, but without all the dead weight.

@mjg59 You could mock this with Xen by using a custom dom0 ramdisk that ignores most devices, forcibly passes them to a domU, largely deletes itself afterwards and offers no login or any further interaction. It's not what you ask for, but it might be easier to achieve.

@mjg59 True. As you doubtless know that will get you into having to take care of drivers. I experiment with stuff like this on occasion and have been sticking to KVM because it makes for a simpler host (Linux vs Xen+Linux). Simpler would of course be better, but then my goal is just to be "better" than Qubes.

@mjg59 Sure - that does make sense. It might be possible to configure one of the smaller hypervisors (xVisor, ACRN) like that. And I guess we wouldn't know about corner-cases without trying... it should work, shouldn't it?

@tiago Even Java can beat C when the problem is helped by an optimizing JIT or trace compiler. C provides good control and optimization for optimal algorithms - it's less good with suboptimal ones.

@tiago Absolutely - but I hold that these measures are really just spot measurements of how we implement languages. Python is basically a Lisp at this point, and it could be similarly fast if it had an abstraction-lifting compiler. Hand-tuned OCaml often beats C because they force similar axioms.... I see language performance as a much more complicated equation.

"So yes, left is fragmented in that sense - as it should be. There are many different issues, and they are interdependent but separate. So people who are working on them should cooperate, should recognize that there's a common goal: trying to save human society from its folly, destruction, from oppression, violence, terror." - Chomsky

@ajroach42 Lots of cool projects - you really don't have to joke about being prolific. Good luck!
