@lanodan I've never used Elixir. What makes it especially well suited to network tasks?Yeah, well written Perl really is nice. It's my go-to for quick scans and audits, etc. I think it's better suited specifically to sysadmin tasks than Python. Have you tried #Rakulang? https://raku.guide/

@lanodan There is Zef for package management but, yeah, I don't think it's quite ready for prime time. It's definitely getting closer though.https://github.com/ugexe/zefMy definition of "ready for prime time" is pretty forgiving. Can I compile a minimum viable version of your interpreter and have the package manager fetch the core modules without issue? So far, zef seem to fail this test. I should probably take a systematic approach to this and start filing bug reports now that I think about it.

I've thought about translating some old school (public domain) children's literature into #Esperanto and releasing it under an open license.Comments, thoughts?

Those of you who use #mutt for email, why? I'm a heavy #vim user for editing text files but I struggle with the utility of a terminal based email program. Also, how do you deal with attachments? Do any of you use it in a corporate (#Microsoft #Exchange) environment? Is there appointment calendar support?#linux #email #openbsd #freebsd #netbsd #foss #gentoo #slackware

@konstantin @tuxedocomputers Thanks! We really need new articles. The core Gentoo specific stuff is fairly well covered but the general material is hit and miss. Please keep contributing.

I'm studying #C #programming. I'm that odd duck that has a fair grasp of #asm but never got into C. The reality is most of my code is written in scripting languages these days, #bash, #perl, #python, etc. I don't understand how API calls work in C. If I have two C programs, codenamed Alice and Bob and I want to call some of Alice's functions from within Bob without running the entire program, how does that work? Assume a real OS such as #Linux or #BSD.

What do you think is the most complex piece of software ever written for the #c64?For me it's a toss up between GeoPublish and Newcomer. The former is a full featured (if slow, absent an REU) desktop publishing program. The latter is a *huge* RPG released in the early 2000's, it's 14 disk long with a 1541 drive.

@attilakinali Yeah, the problem is I'm into reverse engineering bits of code for the 6502 for source code archaeology purposes. So, I have to start with the code and scratch my head for a while. Usually I try to rip out interesting bits and run them by themselves in VICE with the debugger going and crossu fingers hoping to have understanding dawn. It's really hard to go from bytes to probable disassembly to a flow chart.
