Any volunteers for https://codeberg.org/prav/bye-laws/issues/19 ? We need a better source format for our cooperative's bye laws. The current format involves huge diff of autogenerated style for even a small change. We need this soon to apply for a pan card.If you are familiar with preparing nicely formatted documents, ideally from text formats for easier collaboration, you can help. Basically the current format allows anyone to propose changes with just a web browser (they can select any text and add a comment), without needing any account or using any specific tool. So we should try our best to keep these properties as much as possible.This is very similar to how GPLv3 was drafted and allows widest participation by lowering the entry barrier significantly.

@Zergling_man @Suiseiseki @prav they can switch to another xmpp client anytime and bring their prav contacts with them. No one is forced to stay on Prav if they realize later they don't need to use a phone number. Most people they talk on Prav would be already knowing their phone number if they stick to just personal circles. Even otherwise most people using WhatsApp would have shared their number already. We don't have to insist people take a huge jump in a single step.

@Suiseiseki @prav Open Collective is definitely #FreeSoftware https://github.com/opencollective/opencollective/ has the source code for Open Collective service. You just chose to use librejs limitation to decide something is Free Software or not. #LibreJS only works for simple websites and it is wrong to blindly trust the output of LibreJS. Many people make this same mistake.

@Suiseiseki @prav Why do we have to insist every one has to make exactly same choices as ourselves ? Yes, tying #xmpp id to phone number has some problems, but why are we afraid of giving choices to people? Nobody is forced to use #Prav to talk to other Prav users. People who don't want to use phone number can just use another xmpp client like Mobocles Chat. xmpp and federation is about choices, not forcing our preferences on everyone.

@organicmaps that is a false choice, it does not have to binary of github or self hosting. codeberg is #FreeSoftware and collectively run by the community. There is no platform maintenance cost if you choose #codeberg. Do you like if codeberg actively promoting Google Maps and saying OSM is incomplete, and not convenient ? Free Software projects have to support and promote each other, if we grow together, everyone benefits. If every other Free Software were promoting convenience it'd affect OSM.

#diaspora service at poddery.com will be shut down after we ran it for 12 years. Joe Bivins ran it before we took over maintenance in 2013. Good way to start new year, I could do a #UPI scan and pay on my #librem5 with 100% #FreeSoftware. Camera app millipixels suddenly started working and it supports detecting QR codes too!Earlier I had to type the address manually and it used to time out (I was also switching to 2G only mode to make sure USSD goes through earlier, but noticed I don't need to do that manually) .Now last 4 payments worked on first try!Though you need a lot of effort to get this far https://wiki.fsci.in/NUUP

@Suiseiseki 你好 I completely agree with you about the feeling, I like to call it Free Software too.My point is, the software remains the same whether you call it #FreeSoftware or #OpenSource. Many people think they can say a software is Free Software or Open Source looking at license.The choice of words determines what is more important to you or what is more comfortable for you. Not everyone is comfortable talking about ethics, so Open Source is more comfortable to many people.
