@stux best printer I've ever owned was an incredibly dirty-when-i-found-it brother b/w laser printer at a thrift shop for $5. Cleaned right up. Doesn't complain about 3rd part toner carts, doesn't care about proprietary drivers, doesn't mind pretending it's a different printer! Living the fairy tale life... for now.

@paradroyd The fact that HP and System 76 were willing to work on this together is incredible. That 5850U looks beastly for it's power requirements and the whole unit looks well thought out and designed. Enjoy! I certainly don't need one, but it ticks enough boxes to make me want one! Jealous lol.

I'm a little less scared of it the more I play with it. I still think people will misuse it. That said, it did make a cool color flashing text scroller in bash for me with no fuss. It also knows how to formulate cron jobs and can act like apropos on steroids.
