@freemo thought-provoking approach to a hard problem, thank you for this. it seems we need even better opt-in blocking guides and protocols for different categories on the user side as this scales (maybe it exists and I'm not aware but I mostly see server-level lists).

We've elected *not* to de-federate from the following servers until further investigation, as their cited reasons appear to be less egregious versions of community norm violation (eg MAGAism). We will investigate whether any of these servers pose a threat to the safety or well being of our users and update the community soon.

We will do the same for any servers on the list without a stated reason, as we cannot simply trust our federation decisions to an external party. If you have any questions, ask here! @vbuterin the legal rules to an extent also create the social norms (perhaps a 2 way feedback loop?), since they encourage people to find the edges. I'm thinking eg Kim Dotcom or even smaller earlier players like The Pirate Bay saying "well we comply with this section of the law/our local laws, so all good"the moderation of this server is another interesting example... one answer is "we allow whatever is legal", lets you defer hard questions to lawmakers. but you can't get out of em forever!

accidentally shattered the LCD screen on my laptop, so for the next few weeks while I wait for parts I'll be on my retro backup machine.... a fully restored-to-perfection T450s. kind of excited actually :)
