What do you ( #fediverse ) think of a social networking done on (via) the #blockchain ? Are there working proof of concept implementations? Since @silverpill already working on PKI\cryptography for fediverse, blockchain seems like a next evolutionary step for social networking, since it's just distributed (cryptographic) database. I'm sorry that I lack resources & haven't put enough effort researching #crypto, #freenet , #hyphanet . But it seems to me kinda on topic, So I want to hear from people. Maybe I want to hear from people like @ArneBab & @silverpill I don't know here anyone else who work on #p2p social networking.

I've been hearing about #AutonomiDweb few times. PREFACE | INTROI welcome #p2p tech, that does work and is proven. I have an opinion that as of today, people of Earth already have proven, good & legit p2p comminication tools that I mentioned in my posts/feed. And one of the problems that those mentioned, existing (for 10+ years) p2p platforms doesn't get enough of users, adoption. I review each NEW p2p project with skepsis, because it could split already small userbase. And I've seen some red herring projects, fake pseudo p2p.Here are my first, surface, honest, unfiltered impressions about #AutonomiDweb First looks, messy raw UX previewstep 1: *opens* https://toast.happybeing.com/first-post.html , it links to awe. + they mostly use Rust. that's a good sign.- some usage of js, kotlin - not a fan of that.+ macOS build instructions+ AppImage- no windows, bsd, non-linux build instruction.> notices https://github.com/happybeing/awe moved to https://github.com/happybeing/dweb ~ confusing terminology. is it same dweb as in https://getdweb.net/ ? - no mobile support- no mention of privacy, anonimity, garlic\onion routing (#i2p) layer or transport traffic protection against firewalls on protocol layer, that's big minus in era of DPI firewalls and some countries blockage 443 & other traffic, vpn, from time to time.> + notices it utilized SOLID. interesting. but they won't fix concept of DNS, CA ? + https://autonomi.com able to read without JS. that's a plus.- > footer of the site. well, if you say you represent some values to stand for some (our & mine) communities. maybe you should ditch discord for xmpp, X for mastodon, and Reddit for Lemmy ? huh? Think about that. I think we could continue the review after this get fixed/changed @happyborg .With kindness & respect.

Tiny post to have a small talk about FEP-ef61I think it may turn fediverse in to something nostr alike.could be called nostrification. it may nostrify fediverse/activitypub. and nostr-alike protocol comes with set of own questions.and it still won't be p2p technically.@silverpill

@silverpill > Each server still has a personality, is responsible for some types of moderation and helps community to form (I heard that Nostr also moves in that direction with its relays).yeah in nostr they call them relays. most of which are provided by nameless entities, few provided by named individuals. Advanced nostr users, client developers, relay developers already expressed dissatisfaction with built in limitations of nostr protocol(like for example, afaik both nostr-relay wss:// & activitypub REQUIRE valid domain name + SSL certificate is a must)ActivityPub could in theory just use ipv4 or ipv6 address directly without SSL, but it is not allowed by protocol specification. In nostr there is no relay discoverability. It is not broadcast network. Poor flood protections. No good peer\friend discoverability. and so on & much more, obstacles. So advanced nostriches already began to work on nostr successors, enabling gossip protocol & dht in nostr clients. Also one client publishing personal data to many relays without control, guarantees to clean own data - is privacy nightmare. My post is a call not to repeat nostr mistakes, solve them. >You can even write activities to a USB drive and then give it to your peerthat's more like sneakernet #scuttlebutt (& Co, & similiar f2f projects) (In this case I usually ask why not just work on them instead)

#Mastadon is trying to be #Twitter, but I'm not a Twitter person, and need better options to digest/navigate my incoming Feed. So I'm thinking about some decent #activitypub based alternatives. how Mitra social compares vs (streams) ? (summoning @silverpill & #hubzilla avatar astral projection guy, I forgot his name) Or what should I know about #pleroma #akkoma #Misskey #lemmy , before investing in them ?

Also, another question, Is there a project that merge functionality of #Indieweb with #activitypub ?E.g. a cross compatibily layer with PubSubHubBub, webmentions, etcTo let #indieweb user, website owner comment on #activitypub user & vice versa. I know following RSS/Atom wouldn't be an issue & that works. I'm more interested in dynamic notifications, pingbacks, search, federation between activitypub & indieweb. Re-toot, this important. (pinging @smallcircles , because it is about small social circles, and you seem like the only indieweb person I know here on fediverse, you can ping people who related to IndieWeb)

@pepper0 Important spec note about IndieWeb is the point of having Static Website, from Static Site Generator, so no VPS-dynamic back-end required, it could be hosted anywhere for free.

post was written as reply in thread announced discontinuation of queer.party instance, but Original Post of Topic Starter lost #queer.party #queerparty ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------@maffsie that wouldn't be the case if queer.party was really decentralized #p2p like freenet, hyphanet, scuttlebutt manyverse tildefriends, #web3, (or at lame case #nostr)So refugees are welcomed to try those. There is also promising project AutonomiDweb, but I haven't seen any users posting content there. You could also try http://mitra.social & #hubzilla , both should have nomadic identities. Follow me & boost if you interested in sutainable decentralized tech.

@jupiter_rowland @silverpill 's http://mitra.social does state that it support login auth via distributed etherium blockchain method. also there is some mysterious FEP to be implemented in mitra to auth/sign via Keypair. My concern is that current ActivityPub ActivityStream may demand some specific Server-to-Server HTTP POST headers, that couldn't be provided from a browser js front end client. There might/should be option for sending HTTP POST to remote Inbox from Desktop Client, signing message with private key. Question is, will this be accepted by most of the current Fediverse instances ?

@vermaden @Larvitz @stefano @jae @rqm @pertho But how #BSD people view and perceive an #Gentoo / #NixOS ? (comment If only expirienced advantages of it)Also I've heard Alpine & Void trying to simulate BSD ways, of developing kernel+userland in same source tree.Also, I do consider GPLv3 is more kosher than BSD license.

@jae @rqm @Larvitz @pertho @stefano @vermaden I have issue/question with/for #BSD. It's not like this issue is solved with #Linux, it still persist in linux, but there are ways to solve it. I want Windows like expirience where : a) I can copy binary built for NetBSD and will it work on other, let's say for example OpenBSD ? e.g. crossplatform compatibility, like for binary apps between win xp/7/10b) is static linkage well adopted and implemented across BSD distros?c) is that easy to install in BSD multiple version of same app, at same time, parallel. E.g. for example v1 & v2 & v3 of Nano editor, or Firefox. is that achievable with 1 command line? for same single shared user, without using bsd jail/container.

I wish I had #fediverse (#mastodon #pleroma #akkoma #friendica #hubzilla #iceshrimp #snac #lemmy #mbin #kbin #piefed ) #client , I mean like #ELK #lmst #pl-fe #phanpy #tooty #sengi #pinafore #halcyon . That would allow me to sort my subscription feed & browse sorted feed, to see ONLY relevant posts (on topic updates follow-up's?). Well, the mastodon feature of "LISTS" tries something similiar by allowing to make a sorted list of people\subscription, sorted by your custom category/topic. But it doesn't include #tags. Each #tag must be browsed separately, individually, manually, and there is no feature of list of tags in mastodon. Lemmy, mbin, kbin, piefed and other #reddit #forum like #activitypub implementations allow you to have topics-threads, but each thread does not replicate very well across multiple servers/instances. Can't be easely crossposted ( by pinging multiple category-bots). And doesn't replicate & easily-searchable as classic mastodon #tags. Other things I don't like:- twitter like reposts. they make you feel you subscribed not to the original "reposter" friend, but to "reposted content" that you never subscribed for. the #f2f p2p architecture of #scuttlebot (#scuttlebutt) kinda eliminates that, they don't have nor show reposts. you see there only original posts, original content, of friends you follow. Kinda helps to slow down the mind from informational overflow. You can opt out to see posts of friend's friends, if you want more. Tags are also supported there.- threads consist only of information aggretator url sharing in reddit like clones. Without having OP OC like in bbs|AgoraRoad , they just silo you to clickbait to other web sites. !fediverse@piefed.social @fediverse

@FediTips The situation with #Guppe wouldn't happen if it was really decentralized aka #p2p fault tolerant tech. Like #Namecoin , .ens IPNS #IPFS, or #nostr #pubky #ZeroNet@dandylover1 ipns://seedit.eth plebbit.com hashchan.org are interesting. Meanwhile #Friendica & #Hubzilla have some groups too. also shout out to @newsmast , they host few communities, check them out. I've tried fedigroups.social & it's hard to use, unintutive & obscure. I see just a mastodon server there. It is not clear & obvsious from main home page how to list groups, posts inside groups, group members. With such trend no wonder why people look back to #Usenet. However I think #XMPP is more usable (it does have groups and proto social network inside too) {re-toot & boost my post if you find it helpful}
