@stux @emaechler After looking at some data, I stand corrected on the severe drought. The main misconception I encounter a lot is that people don’t know that Southern California is actually a desert, so my knee jerk reaction is usually to emphasize that. Sorry about that!As seen in the link below, while 2024 had good rainfall, recent decades have shown a decline in average rainfall overall, particularly in downtown LA where the data is from. Recent decades have in fact seen more droughts more often, so the answer to your question is yes. Additionally, the other key factor is the Santa Ana winds that kick up every year. They’re strong, dry winds normally, but the gusts and speeds this year are unheard of. @stux Weather it is determined as fair use or not, the creator should be able to specify that they do not want their work used in AI. Maybe just use your favorite license, but add a line to the beginning of it “No fucking AI please and thank you”

@stux I saw SO MANY of these videos when I was still on instagram. They’re all ads for AI homework “helpers” for a subscription. Some of them weren’t even marked as an ad, but clearly were affiliated with the brand itself. Pretty sketchy to say the least

@stux As someone who hasn’t been on .social in years, it feels like the dirty choice to me. A lot of out of pocket and rude posts I see boosted are from .social. It seems like the closest instance to conventional platforms and their toxicity. It makes sense because most people will go to the biggest server, but bigger doesn’t always mean better.
