       @GottaLaff @Teri_Kanefield I get it about Mastodon's usability, altho it only takes a short time to figure it out and get comfortable. After trying Post and Spoutible and CounterSocial and Mushroom (and that other one that broke...) I realized what sets Mastodon head and shoulders above the rest is that it is unbillionaired. It's not some rich clown's pet project, and it's not the golden egg of someone hoping to get rich. It exists for us to use, period!

       @stux there is a lot of room between "blocking everything by default" and blocking a particular entity preemptively because they have a well-established track record spanning many years of being more than willing, happy even, to harm individuals, businesses, and the internet itself as long as they can derive profit or in some way boost Zuckerberg's (or whichever billionaire's) ego

       @grammargirl I just had that experience this morning with "squirrel." You don't have to say squirrel very many times for semantic satiation to kick in. It's a squirrelly word! Happily, the term semantic satiation was in a readily accessible brain file because just a few days ago I heard Coach Beard tell Coach Lasso about it.
