@futurebird It would appear, then, there are no clear lines one can draw between the haves and the have nots. 🙂

@futurebird Life is harsh. Like ants, humans survive through community and cooperation.Unlike ants, we philosophize. We think in the abstract. We fall in love. It's the loving, I think, that will determine whether we will succeed as a species or be swept into the dustbin of evolution.

@futurebird One of the reasons I am so enthusiastic about Joe Biden is because he is a foreign affairs savant. Through his work as VP, and in the Senate as Chairman (or Ranking Member) of the Foreign Relations committee, He doesn't just know the history of US foreign policy. He lived the history.

@futurebird Biden's approach to foreign affairs is not like Trump's. Trump acts like slumlord of the world in relation to other democracies. Pay up or become homeless.Joe Biden acts with sincere compassion to represent the US as the most powerful member of a family of democracies around the world. He respects each and every "family member" for the unique qualities they bring to the table.

@futurebird I'm not sure I agree that he's "aiming" to preserve US hegemony. The US is the wealthiest, most powerful nation on earth. In the global arena, Joe is obliged to wield that power responsibly.Domestically, he's obliged to ensure all Americans have equal access to all the resources necessary to benefit from the wealth and power generated in the US.Right now, tax laws are funneling resources away from ordinary folk

@futurebird It's reminiscent of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. I get what they were trying to do, (skateboard-surfin' safari) but it doesn't work for me, either.

@futurebird >>>Is the US a multi-ethnic, multi-religious country?<<<Well, obviously. How that multi-ness appears to the individual depends on the age of the individual. My generation (boomer) adapted to a vastly different environment than a 20-something does now. Each of us can only imagine the experience of the other.1/4

@futurebird >>>In some ways picking Biden, was a retreat from the Obama days.<<<Yes. I, for one, was rather terrorized at the time. Covid, as well as the riots following the lynching of George Floyd coupled with Trump’s reckless, hate-filled administration of the law had me up against the ropes. Biden’s know-how and wisdom was very soothing. I was overjoyed to vote for him in the 2020 Texas Dem primaries and even more thrilled when he became president.2/4

@futurebird >>>In 2016 there was Democratic overconfidence.<<<I, for one, was not overconfident. I was naive. I thought our system of government was bullet-proof, that a kinder, gentler Hitler could not happen here.In retrospect, it seems we (the all of us) were unprepared. Our core values as a nation were sorely tested and we (the all of us) simply failed.Nevertheless, all is not lost. Not yet.3/4

I love reading about your ant colony. But spiders? Spiders are the single most wonderful and amazing contribution to life itself in my garden. If I go outside at night with a flashlight and shine it into the grass just right, I can see countless sweet tiny green and pink jewel-like reflections of countless spider eyes selflessly keeping the garden free of pests night and day.I don't know if I can bear to learn your ants ate the spider,@futurebird. Oh, the arachnity . . . !

@futurebird The thing is, pesticides simply do not work in the garden. They seem to kill pests, but there are going to be a few that survive. And those few will pass that trait on to the next generation. So by the end of the growing season, they're back, stronger than ever.I took one of my neighbors by the scruff of the neck when he sprayed that shit too close to the fence. I gave him a very good dressing down. My garden is living proof organic techniques work. And my neighbors know it.

@futurebird I rarely remember my dreams. But I always remember waking up to a world of complete and utter insanity. There have been a few times I wake myself up laughing. And I wonder, "What was so funny about that?"But usually, it's just another day.

@futurebird It is, for me, a matter of reality v ideally.I grew up during the civil rights movement. I saw Oswald get shot on live TV. I read Look and Life magazines, and saw black and white images of Black people getting the shit kicked out of them. I followed body counts, saw color images of dead Vietnamese and dead Americans. I mourned the loss of Dr. King and RFK.

@futurebird I've been voting blue since 1976. Presidential elections are a BFD. Some candidates have inspired great enthusiasm in me while others were more "meh". 2024 has nothing whatsoever in common with any other election I have known.I was over-the-top enthusiastic in 2008. I was not as enthusiastic in 2012, however. In 2016, it was work to get to the polls on Election Day.In 2020, I was relieved and soothed by the candidates. Voting was a pleasure.1/2

01)After 40 years and countless games, my husband and I accomplished what we believe to be the perfect game of Scrabble. We each scored over 200 points, and we used all the tiles.02)The game started with me way out ahead. Then he caught up and took the lead. Then it went back and forth until I played the last two tiles, and the game ended.03)It was a tie. We each scored 230 points. No one lost. We both won.@3goodthings#gratitude #3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings
