@davidtoddmccarty @jaredwhite While I much prefer open RSS podcasts, and appreciate the sentiment against walled gardens, I have to note that “podcast” is a word derived from a defunct Apple product that greatly popularized the medium itself. I personally hope podcasts mostly remain indie and open to all via RSS but language policing feels like an indirect way to lobby for that

I lost 500-600 followers here recently and while I don’t care, I am wondering if I missed some big drama, like an instance getting blocked or people hating my employer or my country or, uh, me. (I was busy and away, not posting, so it is odd.) Just wondering.

Just went through a covid booster red-tape nightmare at Walgreens. They are apparently in a contract dispute with United Health Care. Shot wasn't covered. I'll just pay, I said. We can't charge for a covid shot. Round and round. Eventually browbeat them into giving it to me for $37 because I am a highly persuasive individual. Now I need to argue with UHC to get my money back.

Mastodon is the only site where a user is guaranteed to gripe about a paywalled article every time. Folks, ads are dead. Subscriptions pay for the journalism and feed our families. A trial sub is cheap. I give away a lot of free links. You can read many with an email (regi-wall is not a paywall). It is easy to get around with research. You do you. Just don’t reply with a complaint or a paywall evasion. It’s kind of rude. I may block you. Move on. Read something else. It’s a big old internet.
