@Indus3 dunno about corporations, seems they have enough resources to do either at scale!but i'm actually considering getting a windows computer (after 25 years of almost exclusively using linux) for non-programming, silly personal and creative stuff, just to not have this extra cognitive load of understanding how the internals work and maybe "having to fix them"

@maltimore it makes somse sense… if you don't have very good eyes, 4k resolution is overkill, and can even give a lot of annoyance having to fight programs that insist on making ur fonts very small

@maltimore true ! and for a big monitor or tv i understand it toobut for example i have this 15" laptop with a 4k panel, there it's unnecessary, to add insult to injury it has a non-fancy Intel GPU that can hardly drive it

@andrea something that rubs me in the wrong way is that many of these people at the same time don't respect IP on software.not that i do, much, but i mean, no, you can't support draconian IP laws while "pirating photoshop is morally acceptable".somehow artists' semi-eternal, complete IP ownership over their art, and even art style, is uniquely worth protecting to the full extent of the law.

@thomholwerda i don't think so, it's kind of sad it's 2023 and we still have tons of separate IM/messaging apps, instead of having it integrated into one architecture, imo this was a great idea behind clients like Pidgin back in the days, but they just kept coming and were hard to integrate i guess

i'm not sure if i'm going to keep the x0f.org instance running for much longerpersonally, i'm not that active with social media, and i've never been using mastodon a lot, and don't have the intent toso at some point there's the question, is this still worth maintaining?it's not a lot of work, so if someone is actively using it i'm fine to keep it running

this place feels so dead(both this instance, and in a sense, the wider fediverse)i had high hopes in 2018, but, so few things panned out as i expected, or hopedviewing the local timeline it's mostly the merge bots. does anyone here even care about bitcoin development? i don't knowto be clear: i'm not suddenly going to pull the plug. if i'm going to shut it down, i'll let you know enough in advance
