@zoey @SquidPresident Right. The movie is really compelling and mysterious, until it’s not...And yes all the stuff before they wake up in the shimmer I didn’t need to know. Woulda been a much better movie to start there and really fill out the exploration of the strange place...

@zoey @SquidPresident And really the choice of electronic dance music is maybe really what set me off. That kind of music is such a cultural thing for me. The director thought he needed something that sounds strange and alien so he picked electronic dance music. But to me that is the music that makes me feel like I am home. So in that moment of the film I wasn’t alienated from the alien, I felt alienated from the movie itself.

@zoey @SquidPresident Again I compare it to 2001. Kubrick chooses music that absolutely no one feels comfortable listening to when he scores the monolith. So it’s supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. And it works for basically everyone.Annihilation was good until it yelled at me: EBM fans are weirdos.

@zoey @SquidPresident The damaged good dialogue made sense to me, it explained why they were all there in the first place because they had to know they wouldn’t make it back out right? So what kind of person takes on a mission like that? Character development through dialogue imo.And yes, just cut everything in the hole. She crawls down the hole and then we see her and her mirror being in the lighthouse again and suddenly its a much better movie...

@zoey @SquidPresident but yes, again, good idea poor execution, there needs to be a reason why these five characters would choose a doomed mission, we just didn’t need to be told it in quite such a trite way...

@zoey @SquidPresident woulda been much more effective to just learn that yes there was no reasonable hope of coming out alive (or at least the same) and then you see some scars and you learn her husband came back weird and then you learn she has inoperable cancer and then you’re like AH THEY CHOOSE THE DOOM AND THE ADVENTURE I GET IT

@pixl Conspiracy Notes: Netflix only gives you these outrageous suggestions because they know you will screenshot it and share it on social media giving them free advertising.

“When I reached out on Facebook in late June to request an interview, the read receipt indicated that someone had seen my message almost immediately, but no one wrote back for more than 12 hours. When someone finally replied, he or she simply sent a photograph of what appeared to be a hairy, naked butt.“ https://slate.com/technology/2016/07/da-share-z0ne-is-the-coolest-uncool-place-on-the-internet.html
