       @judgedread @AmonMaritza I read a while ago that Jim Davis wrote Garfield as a money grab, openly as merchandisable as possible. Arguably the opposite of Bill Watterson.

       @judgedread I'll give him that much, he accomplished exactly what he set out to do. Lowest common denominator humor with a cat apparently killed it. Supposedly he still does some writing, but his main focus is on the merchandise side of things, now.

       @TrevorGoodchild @Ghislaine I think the substance abuse/ alcoholism comparison is the best I've heard. It's not hard to look at an individual case of someone you know/ knew and feel (something like) sympathy.  But this crosses into a violent disgust when they start offering kindergarteners vodka and crystal meth in school.
