@zudn @amolith 1) If you have a Linux PC at home, I could try to talk you through this regardless.2) I don't recommend using an open proxy. They're run by phishers.3) A commercial proxy might work but I don't know of one that I can recommend.4) Do you have a tech friend or college student relative who has a Linux VPS? If so, you're in like Flynn.5) Hide My Ass should work. Amolith was talking about this type of service and this one has good Live Chat support.https://www.hidemyass.com/

@bumbervevo Try Mail in a Box. It includes Nextcloud, an email server, webmail, and web hosting.

@bumbervevo I didn't realize that it was residential. A mail server needs reverse DNS. I don't think that you can get that with residential. You can certainly host other services such as Nextcloud, Mastodon, and websites at home if you have port forwarding and dynamic DNS set up.The fly in the ointment is that residential connections do flicker off and on pretty often.Perhaps consider a low-end VPS from one of the better hosts. You can get one for as little as $2 to $5 per month.

@tuxcrafting There actually is no point to DST. It causes health problems and does little of value to balance them.

@tuxcrafting Then don't make a blog per se. One alternative is to set up a personal site, not chronological, and post on pages set aside for specific subjects when you feel like it. Eventually you'll have written enough that you can rework the site into a book. The Mastodon feed that you're already posting to is arguably enough of a chronological blog for most purposes.

@tuxcrafting Actually, it's fair of you to point that out because the pleroma part is right there in your ID string and I said Mastodon regardless. Anyway, I was thinking of micro-blogging in general and the Fediverse which includes both systems is the best place for that.

@tuxcrafting In you like, feel free to design a Final MT world to go online. I've hosted a number of specialty #Minetest worlds since 2012.Pictured: "Wasteland" by a Fallout (tm) fan. Denny the dino hunts a bunny in post-apocalyptic ruins as the player prepares to throw dynamite. This world needs an MT 4 or MultiCraft 1 or 2 client and is located at:minebest.org port 30027The builder is msn from Edgy McEdge's copy of Block City (created in part by yours truly).https://minetest.org/

@fluffy 1) Yes, you can do this up to a point. However, manual capture works better than automatic.2) One approach is Pale Moon plus ScrapBook X. This approach is simple, but it only works for some sites.3) For near-perfect captures, learn to use WARC toolsets. I've tested openwayback and pywb and suggest starting with those two. This isn't plug and play but I've gotten it to work pretty well.4) Links:https://github.com/webrecorder/pywbhttps://github.com/iipc/openwayback/wikihttps://www.loc.gov/preservation/digital/formats/fdd/fdd000236.shtml

@fluffy 1) These tools do work though in different ways. One of the WARC tools saves captures in multiple formats. You'll find that only the WARC format and multimedia files work well.2) I started to do this in 2006 using pre-Quantum Firefox and the original ScrapBook extension. It's nice to still be able to read websites that are long gone.3) There's one more approach that's tricky but automatic as you wished. One sets up a copy of Squid to decode https and cache content forever.

@fluffy I noticed Conifer but thought that it was a commercial service. However, I see that you've found a FOSS core. I'll give it a try later this Fall.

@fluffy 1) Regarding the grievance: Yes, I started to write my own tools in 1995 to capture websites for this and other reasons.2) Q. Why not capture everything? A. In the past, disks cost a lot more and complete and automated captures, especially for https sites, were more difficult. But 1 TB disks, even SSDs, are cheap now and the Squid approach is both fast and automatic. So I'll probably capture more pages automatically in the future.

@dearrude 1) It may not qualify as decently designed, but feel free to use the HTML5 and CSS3 code from my template at this link:https://laclin.com/bundled-distros.htmlIt's simple, static, JS-free, and mobile-responsive.2) There's an older version at the following link:https://minetest.org/This one uses JS for statistics, but it's easy to delete that part. There's also some JS and dynamic content on subpages and linked pages.#2 omits the fixed header bar in #1. Yes, it also has too many buttons.
