       Fred Brooks has died. His book (the one from my bookcase is shown here) is one of the most important I've read on #softwareEngineering.Key observations:1. Even though usual management practice to fix a behind-schedule project is to add more people, that actually ends up making it even more behind.2. "Second-system syndrome" is where you design something awesome but limited. So, later you built a second one to be better but it becomes a sprawling mess.Very foundational stuff.

       In 2020, a contingent of Trump supporters used trucks and vehicles to form a "Trump Train", which harassed and endangered a Joe Biden campaign bus driving through Central Texas.Fearing for safety, the bus operator requested police support.        What kind of a day am I having? Whelp, I dumped the remaining 1/4 of my water bottle into my purse by accident.Related, I learned that my Pixel 6a has a feature that detects water or debris in the phone's USB socket and disables it. Once the problem clears, it automatically turns it back on.

       I took this photo exactly five years ago, for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Apollo 11 moon landing. This is the restored Apollo mission control.The guy in a suit, back to us, is Gene Kranz. He was mission control director for that flight. We in the gallery got a nice wave from him.#apollo11

       One of my favorite parts of the restoration is that there were ash trays on the consoles. And phone booths in the visitors' gallery. (I did not check if the phones had dial tone.)
