@JessTheUnstill social norms can be useful to regulate society but they can also be very oppressive. I have a hard time navigating them myself, I base myself on seeing how others are corrected to know what the social norms are, but that does risk (re)traumatising whoever gets corrected, since the internet's enormous visibility easily turns corrections into punishment. Imo there needs to be a better balance in how visible we make corrections...

@stux been checking out Lemmy and Kbin today, I like being able to follow community threaded discussions over following people in chronological threads so i might like the software more than Mastodon. But it's challenging to pick the right instance (or even software!) Especially with these kind of considerations https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835067556814923

It seems like #lemmygradml is down, one of the more controversial Lemmy instances that is primarily Tankie. @feditips among others warned for this instance https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379

maybe Lemmygrad received a Reddit hug of death, or it was intentionally DDoS'ed? a reflection: Problematic instances are not uncommon in the fediverse, that's what defederation is for. What's interesting is how Lemmy devs seem to be of the same 'ideology' as Lemmygrad, which leads to questions about how norms can be coded in software packages, and whether instances running on such software can (or should) be avoided

@jbaert @feditips feditips still stands by it most recently https://mstdn.social/@feditips/110476830253102884 I've not seen an official stance of Lemmy devs, but they seem to not have defederated from lemmygrad.ml https://lemmy.ml/instances
