I'm a little scared to jinx it by saying anything, but I feel like mastodon might actually catch on this time. Every time I've looked at it before, I thought there just weren't enough people using it to produce the network effects that make sites like twitter and facebook appealing. Same story with diaspora. But this flood of new users might just do it.

@MasonBee every time the interracial part is mentioned, I momentarily think "... so, yeah, that needed protecting too" and then I can feel my brain short out and avoid thinking about it.

@MasonBee @gwangung @sgt1372 @cwebbtampa to be honest, I don't think it's very *likely* that the current court would overturn Loving.Thomas is in an interracial marriage himself, and consistency isn't important to him: he's perfectly capable of finding bad-faith reasons to overturn one and not the other.still: the precedent is only five years older than Roe, and I do *not* want to be taking chances. some of those laws, held in abeyance since 1967, are probably still on the books.

@bortzmeyer I haven't the slightest objection to this. What I object to is that with the 56-year copyright that existed at the time he was writing, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory should have been in the public domain the past three years, and anyone could have published any version they wanted, including the un-bowdlerized original.

Ahh, I finally got to merge something that's been on my to-do list for years: "delv +ns" does what "dig +trace" was supposed to, but was never much good at.(Specifically, it performs a full recursive #DNS query from the root, including #DNSSEC validation, using the same code that named does, and displays the whole process message by message. It'll be in #BIND 9.19.12.)https://gitlab.isc.org/isc-projects/bind9/-/merge_requests/7477

@bortzmeyer thanks for the livetooting - the audio is so garbled, I can't make out a single word. I'm just reading the slides.

@bortzmeyer I'm surprised they're even talking about this; ECDSA is the obvious choice.

@bortzmeyer I thought 2028 was being discussed for the *next* key change, but 2024 was for this one?I'm sure in 2028, 25519 will be fine, but IMHO it isn't ubiquitous enough yet, and ECDSA is.

@eniko On a business trip to a place with nobody else wearing masks, I have been surprised to learn this about myself: psychologically, being one of only a few people wearing masks is *light years* easier than being the only one. I thought I was pretty much immune to that kind of conformity pressure, but wow, no. The awkwardness is intense.Anyway, I'm just here to say, if you think it's the right thing to wear a mask, you might also be helping steady the nerves of someone else who thinks so.

@lowqualityfacts I question the quality of the training data used by CatGPT. Anyone who's seen what it looks like when cats type knows how rarely they type "meow".

@BlackAzizAnansi A few weeks ago someone got pissed off at me for saying that even if people aren't wearing masks routinely anymore, they should at least still wear them when they feel sick. This apparently was a real asshole thing for me to say because covid has evolved so it isn't contagious anymore, or something. And I was like... even if you were right about that, you also shouldn't spread *cold* viruses? And he only got angrier.I will never understand the pro-biocontamination movement.

@sidereal @DrPsyBuffy Same. If it's any comfort, the hope I cling to is that all of this has happened before, and we got over it then...https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Mask_League_of_San_Francisco
