Hello, #blind #Linux users. About to take the plunge to learn Orca #ScreenReader and test #a11y of #MuseScore. Any suggestions for most accessible #distro, #DesktopEnvironment, ETC would be greatly appreciated. Thx. #BlindTwitter #BlindMastodon

Just opened my #Mastodon home timeline only to find 3 consecutive posts with no #AltText. One of my favorite things about Mastodon and the #Fediverse is the culture of #inclusion for everyone, and a huge part of ensuring inclusion for #Blind and #VisuallyImpaired users simply requires that sighted posters describe images they post. So, please don't skip the alt text. Thanks. #Accessibility #a11y #BlindMastodon

@tek I'm pretty sure Tusky is one of them...

@edd @tek Yep, Tusky recommends you use that in their FAQ.

@Jaycee You're welcome. It's a beautiful part of the world and I'm lucky to have been raised here. Let me know if you'd like any recommendations for places to go, things to see/do, etc. while you're in the area.

@nextcloud It’s utterly unacceptable that we’re voting on global accessibility like it’s a feature rather than a necessity. The next poll question asked by every @nextcloud staff member who created this poll or approved its publication should be, “would you like fries with that?”

@adiz @nextcloud My human right to access should not be dependent on my or anyone else’s willingness to contribute free code to a company which is perfectly capable of paying developers and experts to implement standards compliant global accessibility.

@adiz @nextcloud If next cloud were unusable by everyone, it would be an utter crisis. But, since next cloud is only unusable to the disabled, our right to access is trivialized as a feature request which we must fix ourselves. That’s what you’re suggesting I or any other disabled user do, and it’s the height of ablest ignorance.

@nextcloud Thank you, #Nextcloud, for the apology and reevaluation of how your messaging was interpreted by the #disabled community. Thank you also for the willingness to improve public communication so that insensitive polls/posts like this are not published in future. Finally, thank you for defining the #accessibility standards which Nextcloud follows. #Blind #BlindMasto #BlindMastodon #BlindFedi #LowVision #VisuallyImpaired #Disability #DisabledMastodon #DisabledFedi #a11y @mastoblind @main

@mischievoustomato It is not “completely fine and sensical” to trivialize my right to use this platform as a feature request.

@adiz @tinitun @nextcloud Oh, so it’s a wheelchair users responsibility to build a ramp so that they can access a public place? Is that what I hear you saying? Because that’s exactly what you’re saying, only you’re talking about my right to access software. That doesn’t seem wrong in any way to you?

@adiz @tinitun @nextcloud If I am a bad actor for expecting an organization to hold accessibility as a core principal, so be it.

@adiz @nextcloud @tinitun If Nextcloud were a FOSS passion project, I would not be arguing with you on this point. That is not the case. Nextcloud is deployed across academic institutions and workplaces. These deployments legally obligate Nextcloud to ensure accessibility. Furthermore, Nextcloud is funded and developed by an organization which pays developers to work full-time. Therefore, your argument is really quite moot. Alsso, for the last time, accessibility is not a fucking feature!
