From the early release notes:> bullseye is the final Debian release to ship apt-key. Keys should be managed by dropping files into /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d instead, in binary format as created by gpg --export with a .gpg extension, or ASCII armored with a .asc extension. Sowget -O - https://example.com/gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -becomessudo wget -O /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d/example.asc https://example.com/gpg.keyThat's a lot easier in my book.

Sometime in the last few months I made mention of my old Asus eeePC 900As and someone (I think a friend of @djsundog) lamented how much they missed theirs.Might that party, or someone else, be interested in acquiring said devices? In the retro/small device department, I also have an original Chumby. Since the backing service is all but gone, it's basically a (very pretty) desk clock. Might there be a hardware hacker out there interested in tinkering on it?

@djsundog I may have found a place to actually buy an ARM server.https://www.chip1stop.com/USA/en/view/dispDetail/DispDetail?partId=SOCI-0000001&cid=SOCIEBI'm not up on procedures for acquiring equipment directly from Asia, so I'll send you deeper down that rabbit hole :)

Open source is needed to help improve our software and keep it secure.Open standards are needed to ensure that all of our lovely systems can interoperate. But most importantly:Open hearts are needed to help lift us all up and let us live our best lives.

@matrix My friend on his own homeserver wasn't so much smug as annoyed he couldn't talk to me. Another mutual on matrix.org fell back to Discord for the evening. We're all willing to give you some leeway since it's a volunteer project, but try not to be a jerk about it.

The "we just need to learn to live with it" narrative around COVID seems to be making a comeback. And yet widespread masking is not being considered a valid strategy for living with it? I legit do not understand this.

Just saw someone post "Stop using #IPv6". Gee, thanks for trying to undo that which I've spent over a decade advocating for. They went on to say it's because of all the "rough edges". You know how you get rid of rough edges in technology? Actually try to use it and fix the bugs you find!"Those who say it can not be done, should not interrupt those doing it." -- Chinese proverb

There's an article on my local TV news website talking about installing "weapons detection systems" in schools to keep them safe. Keeping kids safe is a laudable goal, but I too would like to be safe when I leave my house.Does this mean we will need to install such systems in every workplace? Entertainment venue? Grocery store? What places are worthy of being kept safe? And for the ultimate question: Wouldn't it be easier and less costly to just reduce/eliminate the weapons entirely?(Reminder: I'm on a low snark diet. Please see pinned post about T.H.I.N.K. before replying.)

Please please PLEASE make DNS records for your services. You can't just put a dotted quad in your HTML, .pls file, or really anything anymore and expect it to work everywhere. It's bad enough that your service is legacy-only, but absent a DNS entry, I can't reach your service from my NAT64/DNS64 network without manual intervention. Don't assume I'm running CLAT or in any way have a working AF_INET socket. This plea brought to you in frustration trying to listen to Radio Free Fedi. I'm not tagging them in this post because it appears they're using a third-party streaming provider who really should know better.#ipv6

Another site I need to use has AAAA records to addresses that return Connection Refused, thus breaking my NAT64 client. This is getting tiresome. #ipv6

@tschaefer yes, I know it sometimes helps, but it's the same dance I've been doing for a decade, which is why it's so tiresome.Amusingly enough, after I made the toot and fired up the backup v4 link, their v6 came back up.

I'm running https://github.com/g4klx/M17Gateway for my MMDVM (#hamradio) stack, and it keeps disconnecting from the reflector. I've determined this is an #IPv6 issue, namely it falls over when the preferred_lft hits 0 on the temporary address that was current when I started the program. What I need to figure out is:- why it's not reconnecting- how to prevent it from losing the bindingThe latter was an issue I ran into in Mumble. They had to do something different with they way they looked up the address to do the source binding. I'll have to dig through my notes to see if I can find the issue report. It's taken me weeks to find the time to even narrow down the problem, so I'm leaving this here mostly as a note-to-self, but if someone else with more coding chops than me has an "ah ha!" moment, feel free to submit a PR.

@stanford @albrecht @mozilla Google? I thought it was AWS.I inquired about this three years ago and was pointed at this now six year old bug report: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1354049 . I've updated it with real-world scenarios, but they don't seem to much care. It's like I'm the only one trying to go #IPv6 only.
