@john Python, because while most artists will not go anywhere near code, the ones that do (tech artists) tend to know Python, since that is the language used in tools like Blender and Maya.

@openculture We all get it, but do you have to do this here? I don't follow this account for joke shitposting about the news.

@openculture I mean it's your account, so do what you want, but it's nice to have some respite from this never-ending spectacle somewhere you know?

@cnx @roundcrisis I deleted my post as I changed my mind about joining this discussion, but too late I guess.I think if someone is using social media DMs (any platform) to have private conversations their privacy requirements are not very high. So email is fine, really.(sorry to break it to you, but Twitter and FB employees can definitely read your DMs)Unless you're a spy or whistleblower or something you probably don't care about that level of security.

@cnx @roundcrisis If you're genuinely concerned about the privacy of your messages you'll need to use some kind of end-to-end encryption. Or just don't have private conversations on platforms like this.

@Norrox There's a few other gamedev servers so you could always move. Only problem is you can't transfer your post history when you change instances, but you CAN auto-transfer your followers and manually import your follows elsewhere.

@njamster @Norrox @aras True, but generally in the event a server shuts down there is advance warning and enough time to sort all this stuff out.

@AIandGames It would be interesting to revisit this type of interactive drama situation with Machine Learning based on ethically sourced training data (so NOT Chat GPT but a smaller custom-built model).

@eibriel @AIandGames LLMs that contain who-knows-what scraped indiscriminately from the entire internet are a non-starter for gamedev for *so many* ethical and legal reasons, but limited AI models built on carefully selected (properly sourced) datasets could have interesting applications.

@AIandGames Like you could train dialogue AI on a set of lines written specifically for your characters and then maybe add some public domain material for general knowledge to fill in gaps.

@AIandGames well, 'knowledge'... the nice thing with a fictional interactive setting is that it doesn't have to be factual and accurate (which chatbots are terrible at), it just has to be convincing and entertaining.

@GameDeveloperDotCom It's remarkable how a whole subset of the tech sector just flipped a switch and went "stealing people's work and claiming it as your own is totally fine!" and their entire defense is "well a court hasn't said this new type of theft is specifically illegal, so..."

@EvidenceOverIgnorance @kevinrothrock Or people should just learn to read and enable subtitles instead of butchering original audio. Dubbing should never be auto-enabled for any language.

@doomofthedesert Also doesn't help that some (most?) phone cameras these days turn on AI 'enhancement' (sharpening) by default without asking. I recently realized this reviewing my vacations snaps and found all phone pictures look like they were AI generated if you zoom in! Thanks Google. Blurry pictures would be preferable. Glad I also brought my real camera and took most pictures with that.
