Hey folks. New here. How are folks enjoying Ubuntu 22.04? Anything breaking? Anything shiny and new?Gotta admit I do not like Snap which has been pushed more and more lately. Kinda pointless for my purposes. For example, I tried to use the gh snap and it couldn't access my ssh keys. I saw that they are making a proper interface for that, but still. What's the point of making a snap for something that the primary authentication mechanism is broken?

It does kind of feel like it would be optimal to have my home mastodon be a geographically oriented one, like #OlympicPeninsula in Washington state, for example. Then I could see posts of local folks even if I didn't follow them, which seems valuable. No such instance exists though and I definitely don't have the resources (time, money, local friends) to create one.

I joined a generic interest one (social.linux.pizza) but I actually am not sure how to see posts from it. There's always an error from ElasticSearch about the post count not fitting into an int, which looks exactly like the kind of problem one would have in failing to scale with growth.

@selea you're right, not from ES.

@selea there is a build.sh file in the scripts folder you should use.

So, hating basically all the ways tech is being used these days: Generative AI, bad self driving cars, disgusting social networks, streaming or DRM'd media in walled gardens, all of our data being sold every which way for "better ads", Amazon destroying local commerce, etc etc etcAre the young people (Gen Z and younger) ok with this? Am I just disillusioned because at one point as a millenial watching these things burst into life, I thought tech would actually improve our lives?

@selea for me, I try and embrace that there are seasons of life and that right now is not my season for that because I have other responsibilities I have chosen, like taking care of my family, that utilize the energy I would have put into tinkering. But that season may come around again, and I can look forward to the possibility.
