This week I leveraged pandas and openpyxl to perform calculations on U.S. Census Bureau's Household Pulse survey releases. To my knowledge the results are only available in Excel format. In the past I've written VBA scripts for this sort of thing, but now my scripts can easily work across spreadsheets to e.g. draw comparisons in people reporting they sometimes or often don't have enough to eat from month to month or year to year. For these kinds of applications Python lets me get from vision to a workable solution so quickly.

I dabbled in 2020, but this last week has been my first real go at it. Just an overall interest in a decentralized internet got me to check it out in the first place, but from what I recall it was a bit of a ghost town.

I'm off Twitter. I don't have particularly strong feelings about the controversial changes Musk has made to the platform. But clearly his antics have made him the end of using Twitter, not the means. I can't login anymore without seeing one of his stupid polls on my feed or someone commenting about something he's done. I want the tools I use to get out of the way and take me to the content I want to see. Why would I use a tool that slaps an Elon filter over everything?Mastodon has its own set of challenges but at least I'm not worried about it being ruined by the whims of a childish billionaire.
