To be fair this is the fault of a react component library I was trying to use maintaining internal state that gets clobbered when it gets re-rendered, which is BAD!

@john I honestly think we’d be better off if browsers just accepted XML with callback references to functions in a signed WASM bundle so that we can write web applications like everything else in GUI land, and HTML pages can just be HTML pages again

@john Oh yeah, I just have a couple apps for now. I also really like that new icecubes app that takes advantage of Swift UI from the ground up. It really feels like early social media where there were lots of options for people before the doors were slammed shut to make advertisers happy.

My theory about Threads: Meta wants to capture the biggest user base in the Twitter clone game, and then use ActivityPub to outsource the hard work of creating and curating online communities so they can serve ads on top of that free content. They also get out of doing the difficult work of moderating any of it, because they can just defederate obvious porn/etc instances and then shrug and say, “not our problem”I say this is still better than just letting them control absolutely everything
