I'm giving hosting my own (pleroma) instance a try! For now, it's a single user instance.I'm interested in advice that people might have on this. There's a bunch that I haven't setup yet (like blocklists).

@nergal @yarmo we should create a one way bridge and then repeatedly claim that the metaverse is only a small, isolated island in the great fediverse sea. Then we refer to "metaverse" as "infraverse".

@kamme @CarlCravens Debian has LTS support for an incredibly long time though. So, I wouldn’t think you’d be required to upgrade.

@CarlCravens @kamme I definitely get that. I stopped using Debian on my personal computers for this reason.I use it on my servers though because I don't need anything bleeding edge there.

@stuts @rudolf in many ways, it's kind of weird that Delta chat, or at least email based messaging, wasn't the first private messaging technology.

@rudolf @thorn it would be nice if providers that didn't support IMAP like tutanota and protonmail (I know there's a bridge) could support deltachat too.

@thorn @rudolf there are niche communities where you can make an email account without being tracked (eg. sdf.org). I think that a mainstream free provider can't really do it as they need to prevent abuse of their free plans.

@rudolf @stuts that's interesting. I think IRC doesn't really do what we expect from private messaging though. Without a bouncer, you need a persistent connection to receive private messages. The server doesn't save them for you to read later.

@rudolf there's a lot of features I wish fenix had. In particular, I'd like to be able to view the source of a page without typing `view-source:` into the address bar. I still like it better than other browsers though. You could export everything by syncing fenix to ff desktop and then exporting from there, but that's a lot of steps -- especially if you want to use your own ff sync server.

@feld @polarisera @lain @Moon it’s my understanding that all investments in the US are still taxed on appreciation at the time of sale. So, no valuation would need to be computed.Artist sells for $200 => IRS sees $200 in incomeBuyer buys for $200 => IRS waitsBuyer resells for $300 => IRS sees $100 in capital gainsWealth taxation would require evaluating the asset, but this flow based taxation requires no specialized knowledge on the part of the IRS.

@tallship a call center employee at Barclays once sold all of my information that he had access to (which included the last 4 of my social). It didn't make the news, but I think it's even worse to have employees leak on purpose.

@stux I love how they upgrade it by moving all the options around without changing the documentation.Several features of PayPal now require direct links because there are no menu items that link to them. Such whimsey!

It's amazing how many online accounts don't actually let you change your email. The feature is broken on 1/4 of services I've tried so far.

@joeligj12 @kev I haven't actually done the migration, but I've been thinking about it for a while. 11ty supports liquid, and someone ported the jekyll-specific liquid tags to 11ty. If you don't use any plugins, I think it should be very easy.My issue is that I use quite a few Jekyll plugins.

@kev @joeligj12 I saw them in this guide. I think there might be a few more Jekyll specific liquid functions, but eg `relative_url` would be easy to add based on this template. https://kittygiraudel.com/2020/11/30/from-jekyll-to-11ty/#jekyll-filters

Where the money comes from doesn't matter because it's fungible. If the government doesn't have the revenue from the loans, then it needs to get the money from somewhere else. If it didn't, it could have lowered taxes. The argument is still bad though. Less than 1% of people benefited from hurricane Katrina relief. Not everything that the government does needs to benefit everyone.
