Whenever I have the traditional illegal ramen at 2am, I make sure to also give my cat a treat. So we can be accomplices.#CatsOfMastodon #TerribleLifeChoices #Cats

@Hyolobrika Eating past midnight (assuming a "normal" circadian rythm) is, afaik, not considered Ideal, and is associated with a bunch of health risks AFAIKBut also, I put cheese in my ramen which is probably another crime to some

@Hyolobrika IIRC some evidence and studies suggest night eating increases risks of obesity, hunger and diabetes due to metabolism stuff I don't claim to fully understand myselfIn my case it definitely increases my chances of getting acid reflux, which is never fun on its own, but you know, sometimes you just ravenously crave the irresponsible ramen all the same lolOf course if you're worried asking a doctor would probably be the best bet here, I'm not an authority on the topic hahah

Oh my FUCKING GODI finished dumping 99.99% of a very old, damaged, backup CDROM that was previously unreadable. It took 3 days and I was super excited to find out what old data I put on it. The disc had UDF sessions, because that was common at the time for just Adding Files to non-rewritable media. So I mount that shit in my Windows 98SE box, and lo and behold, this is all that was on it.I would be absolutely upset if it wasn't so fucking funny#cdrom #DataArchival #retrocomputing

@domi This is a great question and actually occured to me after the initial shock of "congrats, it's a half a shrek" wore offI did a quick pass using photorec and found only partial garbage, but I think there's tooling that lets you check out multiple sessions when mounting, at least on linux -- I will have a look, thanks for the reminderAlthough if it is Just Shrek(tm) is still a great outcome, yes.

@domi Update: I cheked and no, somehow session 0 also just has shrek, so the vague crumbs I got from photorec are all there is, apparently :(

@doskel Also with ring remapping at the core of VT we got them HYPERCALLSAnd they're not vms or guests, no they're DOMAINS, and Domain 0 is the raddest, most powerful of them all.

New "hardening" policy at work kills your ssh-agent process after 10 minutes.Note that this isn't "10 minutes without use on the socket" like gpg-agent does or whatnot, no, it's full on "10 minutes lifetime max".I would describe this as: * High friction* Infuriating* A great source of motivation for experiments regarding how far a laptop can skip across a lake

I've been on the hunt for some accessible, easily self-hosted (on prem or datacenter) chat solution for a while now, and I've been looking very closely at deltachat/chatmail.Not gonna lie, the fact that just uses mature SMTP facilities for transport is making me weirdly aroused. If anyone has experience running their own chatmail server or just using deltachat in general, I'd be glad to hear from you.#DeltaChat #ChatMail #SelfHosted #HomeLab

Went exploring old backups of old webroots and found this picture I took at work like, 20+ years agoI thought it had been lost to time, but here it is, highlighting how JetDirect wasn't exactly a safe and secure protocol, and reminding me that the other admin got upset with me until I removed itFun times

I thought it was time to return to the Dirtywave M8 Adventures and I'm shocked at how much of it is permanent muscle memory already. As always, a super fun time.WIP tentatively called "That Cave Level where the Lava Rises".As usual, it was probably way more fun to make than to listen to, but I am sure vibing#m8 #TrackerMusic #DirtyWave #chiptune #MusicProduction

Well, it's time. I'm releasing my tool that lets you aggregate patch and update status of hosts over ssh on unix-like systems. The github repository has details as well as links to the exhaustive documentation. It is my hope that at least another person finds it usefulhttps://github.com/mrdaemon/exosphere#SRE #HomeLab #Python #unix #linux #freebsd #SysAdmin

Please, I beg, if you're posting about a new release of the cool thing you made, include a small description of what it is and what it does. It's hard to boost "libencarbulator turbo++ 2.8a release is now available! Now supports configuring reticulation of splines" in a vacuum, and I want nothing more than to boost the cool thing you made

I don't really do the "plug the stuff you made" thing super aggressively, but it feels exceptionally relevant today:If you're sitting there wrangling updates for your homelab or small to mid size network on debian or redhat likes, because of a certain CVE, and you wish there was a a way to simply get a view of the state of that across all your systems, in one place, you could give my tool a go. It has a nice UX and requires nothing except ssh.https://github.com/mrdaemon/exosphere#exosphere #copyfail #linux #homelab

@jae mazing, I'm glad! I do wish there was a simpler way to distribute it, but otherwise I did try to keep as low friction as possible
