I'm trying to take more control of my data (i.e. stop using Google for everything), so I'm trying to figure out what to do.Does anyone know of a checklist or an extensive guide to self-hosting and related things?I've looked into a few services but it's confusing, there are so many things out there. Does anyone use NextCloud?

@hansbauerSame here, I've installed Linux a few times on my friends' machines and almost all of them are non-tech people. The most common distro I go for is Manjaro, followed by xubuntu, and I've had a few people choose elementary. Honorable mention to my mom, who uses xubuntu and was born right after Italy stopped being a monarchy 😄@brainblasted

@foggyYes, I definitely need to divide up the setup in small steps. I'll probably post a road map on my personal blog.

@noorulThis is cool but hard to read, can you expand a bit on those? Just to have an idea of what they are and why you like them.

Just landed after a long flight. Caught up with some reading (academic and not), but doing actual work while in the cramped plane seat is too hard.At least I didn't have an high altitude emotional meltdown as usual. That's a good start for this academic year.

@noorulNew life objective: become tenured so that you are rich enough to fly first class to conferences.

I'm so happy that my plants survived my absence, my flatmate did a good job of keeping them alive. This is my favorite plant, a golden pothos.

@jopaWelcome 😁 I'm also interested in privacy and I am a long time Linux user, so feel free to ask or to share anything!
