@mattblaze it's interesting to compare that to the pollution footprint from fossil plants as well. Especially where fracking is used you often get a disturbingly large plume of unhealthy air and groundwater. But just the "soot zone" (now hopefully metaphorical rather than literal) around and downwind of generators surprises many people by its size and impact.

Bought a cheap Moto phone to replace my Fairphone 3 that's not supported on 4G in Australia.Motorola seem determined to persuade me that I should just pay whatever it takes to get a newer Fairphone. The experience is *terrible*.First 24-ish hours of use it has crashed twice in the middle of things. The camera is mediocre even compared to the universally panned FP3 camera. The quantity of crapware on the phone astonishes me. I never realised how much work FP did to keep that shit away from me

I need Android or iOS for work and can't be bothered having a separate work phone. Otherwise I'd have a PinePhone or something.Maybe an Android craptasm just for the work app would not be the worst thing in the world. Me paying for it when I could just get one from the ewaste pile in the office seems wasteful.Too many decisions. Too much to find out. What is "Google One" and why can't I remove it from "my" phone? Ditto "Dolby Atmosand "Moto N..." Feeling older and crankier by the minute.

@aral I'm waiting for a return to the original franchise laws. I reckon the Supreme Court would go along with it.Possibly with the tweak that of course women get to vote if they meet the qualifications, but of course it's their husband who gets to fill out the ballot.

View from my bedroom window. 4kW of "brand new second hand" solar panels, a composting toilet and a clothes line in the foreground. Garage is clad with second hand corrugated iron so it's whatever colours were in the pile. Toilet house is also DIY but the toilet is a council-approved model.Frangipani tree on the left, mulberry on the right.
