You can even get new boxes for the carts. It's crazy what you can just buy off the peg these days.

That's what it's about for me -- I want to make something where it's as easy as possible to manufacture a physical release for your game -- you'll be able to have the carts made by JLCPCB or PCBWay, buy the cart shells and boxes off the peg, print your own label or have them printed (Staples would be happy to do it for you!), stick it all together, and flash the cart yourself. Programming is hard. Selling your stuff should be easier.

@FediPact @nilaypatel Maybe he thinks there are no women because they are avoiding him, specifically?

Seen today on Facebook: An actual SPARCBook 2. I don't know how rare it is, but I still wish it were mine.

If you know a better way to test this thing at various clock speeds cheaply, I'd like to hear it.

Round two: How about this for generating the main CPU clock? The CPU initially uses the 32KHz TOD clock (that's just how the chip is designed), and can switch to the "fast clock" (FCLK) input under software control -- so we will use the I2C bus to program the FCLK speed in this Si5351A. The default ROM can set it to 8MHz, and maybe there can be some API for configuring it dynamically. The CPU *should* work anywhere from 12MHz up to 20MHz, but it's only rated for 8MHz because WDC.

@mmu_man I think it has some OTP ROM on it to set up the pre-configured clocks, which I'm thinking might let it generate all three clocks for the system -- 32KHz TOD clock, CPU fast clock, and 25MHz SYSCLK for the VERA and audio.

@mmu_man I believe you can order them pre-programmed as you need.

So it looks like @faxmodem got the first *actually* defective WME64. Seems that during assembly, the pin on the user port connector which connects to 9VAC on the user port managed to scratch through the solder mask, and short to the ground fill. Obviously this is bad, and entirely my responsibility. Blew the fuse the second power was applied.

@faxmodem So from now on, that pin on the connector will get cut off before assembly, to render that situation impossible.

When I spend my "fun" budget in January, that's going to include the NEC V20 and Proton PT8010AF chips needed for the Micro8088, but I should probably also order some PCBs for other stuff for that. I know I definitely want a PicoGUS in there, but I'll be needing a floppy controller, an IDE controller, serial and parallel controller, and some kind of video card. I don't have a CGA, EGA, or MDA compatible display, so maybe something like the Graphics Gremlin is appropriate?

@xodium It's not just Europe, and it's not just Threads. I get this on Mastodon constantly. Someone actually called me a fascist for saying that they should hold their nose and vote straight ticket Democrat *because* the only mathematically possible alternative is a Republican administration, which would be worse.

@xodium Even if the person saying those things actually is the leftist they claim to be, and not an astroturfing MAGAt, they are at best an ass-backwards idealist who is convinced there can be some kind of mass change of consciousness that magically saves the world from fascism. That isn't how the world works, and actual adults know this.

@publius @xodium That’s all there is. I don’t like it either. Not voting won’t change it.

@publius @xodium The continual failure of the actual left to articulate to the body politic a viable alternative to the current repeating dilemma is to blame for that.

The GitHub repo for Sentinel 65X is now public, for your viewing pleasure. The design would not be in anywhere near the shape it's in were it not for the assistance of @swetland and @RenewedRebecca. It is my sincere hope that this leads to an actual product release, and from there to an actual user community. I’m coming around to the idea that a total end of federation between pro and anti Meta instances might be for the best. Division isn’t inherently a bad thing.

Federation by its nature is optional. In fact, the Fediverse seems to work best with many small instances and few or no large ones.
