@poetgrant I don't like how Purism tells people that they are the good guys and they can be trusted because they care about privacy and freedom every blog post (I'm looking at you, @todd)That's not how privacy or freedom works β you don't trust any organization blindly with your freedom, you activity check the people/organizations you rely on to have that freedom. I think the same thing applies to privacy.

Huawei:It'll be intresting seeing the effects of the ban in the coming months/years. It is too early really to tell what will happen. It's clear the ban did catch Huewei off gaurd, (no matter the company claims) but it's more clear that despite what some people have said on reddit and such, this isn't going to destroy Huewei β at all. China has it's own big tech companies that dominate in their own firewall.

I think it's great that the government has taken a more active role in tech, although I also don't think Trump knows what he is doing. The Chinese will view this as an attack and Europe may even side with the Chinese on this issue, which would really backfire.

https://stopthemingmy.app/I don't understand why these GNOME guys needed to make this. Why not actually reach out to the developers of the distros that ship custom stylesheets rather than complain to everyone else?

https://alexdanco.com/2019/05/30/google-chrome-the-perfect-antitrust-villain/Personally, not sure if this far fetched, but I'd like to see the us government develop the a web engine. Not even a browser, just get over the technological hurdle of making an engine so more than 3 organizations can compete. The web has become a vital piece of infrastructure to society just like roads, which have many companies to choose from, thanks to interstates (a hurdle) connecting city and private roads together.

@amolith What's the point of the verified proof parts if you own the website? Can't you fake it?

It surprises me that Mastodon has kept on getting better and better. Everytime we get a major update, I think that Mastodon has finished adding new features and we won't see anymore big updates for a while, only to be wrong again when something I never knew I needed is released.

Ok, my thoghts on this:Facebook (of course) did this to get more money, but I think they're targeting the 2 billion or so people who don't have bank accounts today with this. They could earn more money with this because more customers. However everyone isn't going to understand crypto, and they seem to not care about explain it. Imagine all the people who loose all their money because they trusted some third party wallet becuase 'Facebook made Libra, they wouldn't steal my money.'

@codesections @mike Computer Scientists love ed, not just because it comes first alphabetically, but because it's the standard. Everyone else loves ed because it's ED!And ed doesn't waste space on my Timex Sinclair.Of course, on the system I administrate, vi is symlinked to ed. Emacs has been replaced by a shell script which 1) Generates a syslog message at level LOG_EMERG; 2) reduces the user's disk quota by 100K; and 3) RUNS ED!!!!!!
